Aw, sorry if I made you feel bad: it's all said with a winky smiley.
I promise to report if I have any slip-ups and you can be the first to tell me off.
No don't be silly I was only joshing! (I'm a girl by the way, as if you couldn't tell by the stunning likeness in my avatar)
I haven't had any slip ups! Mainly cos I booked a holiday to Venice and decided to put my book money into that instead. Yes, I was that bad!
Wow you really are committed to this 'no buying books' cause!!Just out of interest, does anyone else use bookcases instead of other furniture? I've got one at the side of my sofa, it's' just the right height for a side table, and I'm planning to get another small one for the other side. I have a row of small bookcases in the hallway isntead of a table or something to put the post on too. Am I obsessed or just space saving?!
Oh I love this idea, particularly the hallway ones!
Still enjoying The Subtle Knife here, sort of ploughing my way through it but too much fresh air yesterday meant I fell asleep with it on my face last night and woke up quite disoriented around 1am with the light still onWeightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -

Stayed up till 1am to finish The Lovely Bones. I know I said I wasn't going to start it till I had finished one of the others but I needed a book I could read in the bath and the others didn't seem suitable.
Not sure what to make of the Lovely Bones - nice enough but a bit too philosophical for me I fear.0 -
Abandoned the Jojo Moyes book in favour of "Life according to Lubka" by Laurie Graham. It was recommended on here by one of our lovely readers so I requested it from the library. It came in pretty quickly and I couldnt resist. Its a brilliant, read, very funny! So thank you!
Have a lovely day everyone!

Vixstar, I agree with your take on 'The Lovely Bones'. It was a very moving book, but I couldn't quite get my head around it.
Because of the subject matter, I couldn't bring myself to go to the cinema to watch it. Maybe one day .....
Well I finished my book yesterday, and I have picked up from my never been read pile, 'It's a long way from Penny Apples', Bill Cullen's autobiography. It's billed as a rags to riches motivational story. I got it free on a start-up offer with Price Minister and noticed it's been signed by the author.
Will not take this book into the bath with me, as may have a re-sale value lol.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -
I read the Lovely Bones a few years ago and enjoyed it but found some of it a bit bizarre - like the out of body bit, and the icicle thing was just kitsch. It was one of my book clubs' reads last month and it didn't go down too well.
I started Brixton Beach by Roma Tearne last night and so far I'm really enjoying it.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
I found Lovely Bones quite hard going, I'll be interested to see the film tho, just to see how its been interpreted.
