Haha, I'm quite enjoying TSK I have to say!
I just copied and pasted him from someone else's post..Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
I bought another four books last week. In my defence, I purchased them at a school, charity coffee morning at 0.25p each, but they all look good. But I commit to the principles of this thread now Pickle ....
Nearly finished, 'The Rise and Fall of a Domestic Diva', Sarah May. Great light reading, a black comedy. These upwardly mobile women are desperately trying to keep up a facade of perfection, while the credit crunch bites hard, all struggling with similar issues and pretending that they are not.
They are at their pre light bulb moment, so reading it makes me feel quite smug (terrible confession). I haven't got to the end yet, they probably end up joining MSE.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -

OT but I'm like this about some of my friends! I came into work this morning proudly drinking my free Grande Vanilla Latte from Starbucks (they're doing a promotion till Monday where if you do the Via taste test you get a voucher for a free coffee) - a friend of mine is addicted to Caramel Macchiatos but rarely allows herself to buy one. I told her about this and she said "oh I'm too lazy to do all that, I'll just buy one"!
Then she went out at lunchtime, did the taste test but was too embarrassed to ask for her voucher so didn't get one! How silly.
Anyway. Finished Two Caravans, took a while to get going but I enjoyed it. Going to start on Worldwide Adventures in Love by Louise Wener next I think. My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |
Total £4151.44 | £2900.30 of £7051.74 paid off since diary started October 2024.0 -

Gold star for DC!!!I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0

I really fancy her Bake one too...
I have both of these.... I think I have more recipe books than my local library.
Doctors appointment was an hour late this morning (how to you get an hour late when you've only been open an hour 10?!) so I read about 80 pages, really enjoying The Calligrapher's Daughter, I had no idea that Japan occupied Korea in the last century, it's really opening my eyes. I love quality historical fiction, rather than bodice rippers!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
Debt September 20th 2022 £2991.68- 96.92% paid off0 -
There seem to be a lot of Daughter books about at the mo don't there, on my To Read pile alone I have The Abortionist's Daughter, Things I Want my Daughters to Know and The Memory-Keeper's Daughter.
(Sorry, musing to self I want to go home now...)Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Thanks for the tip on the Calligrapher's Daughter, I've just written that in my little notebook!
I've read the Abortionists Daughter but didn't think much to it. I loved the Memory Keeper's Daughter though, it wasn't what I expected but it was so heart rending.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Hope I've not got too many book overload at the moment, but I am a bookaholic
Had to do a major clearout a few years ago when finances were really tight, and sold some 'wanted' books too.
Since then hopefully been a bit better, still a tendancy to overstock on recipe books, but then I have my quick recipe folder with all the favorites in it, so if no recipes get scanned and printed into the folder, the book goes anyway.
Oh, on passing books on, if there's a local youth hostel, they quite often have bookshelves there for visitors. We couldn't take books with us in Canada (weight limits already dodgey, so reading the books when we were there was brilliant).
One thing that is good/bad, is that I have 2 bookloving adult sons, so I do just need to ask for recommendations/loans for books to appear (admittedly they're at a distance, so sometimes delays).0 -

:rotfl:
I like the way that everyone has been pretending to be good and all it took was Tete to stick his/her (:o) Tete over the parapet and confess, only for everyone to start shuffling and coughing in an embarassed fashion and basically say 'Erm, yeah, me too'! :rotfl:
I've still been good (:A), but only cos it's the week before I get paid and I have had othe things upon which to spend what little cash I have.
We are going to have to set up a line-writing penalty for book offenders: 'I must not buy any more books until I have read all the ones I've already bought' or something. :rotfl:Please call me 'Pickle'
No More Buying Books: ???
No More Buying DVDs: ???
NMB Toiletries ??? and I've gone back for my Masters at the University of Use Ups!
Proud to be dealing with her debts 1198~
