Bubbles mum, I also loved Folks from the faraway tree. I also liked the island of adventure, the castle of adventure. Mallory Towers series. (also Enid Blyton) and the Narnia series when I was at Primary School.
Harry Potter books are truly brilliant. I have seen Many children who have no interest In reading become book worms and discover the joys of reading.
These are all on my bookshelves along with St Claire's, I did five my famous five collection to my Godson - I had the whole series except no 21 five gt in a fix ....
My husband despairs as I have this thing about reading series from the beginning and collecting them allAs a dear MSE friend says “keep plodding” or

Morning all
Finished Heaven and Hell last night... I haven't watched tv for two nights ! John Jakes really writes a fab historical novel this was the third in the trilogy about the American civil war.... Do you remember Patrick Swatize in the 80's mini series ? The final book is post civil war... It really opens your eyes to the Indian genocide and the conquering of the Wild West, the reconstruction of the South and despite freedom rather than slavery the inequality and violence (kluklax ) they faced both in the South and North. I feel abit lost without it, but date not look at other John Jake series...
Fortunately my book club book arrived from Green metropolis this morning - although acquired - it was deducted from my balance in the account so no actual pennies spent.
It's My Dear I wanted to tell you by Louisa Young - a WW1 story for the Royal Palaces book club, based at Hampton Court
However, now I have a cuppa and I am going to concentrate on Round about a PoundAs a dear MSE friend says “keep plodding” or

Thanks for the name of Green Metropolis, I couldn't remember it as hard as I tried! WorldofBooks came to mind (not so good on quality) and awesomebooks. Not for myself, mind (I don't need to buy any so I would think in this lifetime), but if I try to find something for the DDs! They don't mind getting 2nd hand books as presents if they are in a good shape.
I'm almost done with "Notes and Queries - Places", I have now dug out "Notes and Queries - People", I bet it will be as informative and funny as the first, and small bitesize pieces if I'm too tired to read muchFirst they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -
I am working through the pile of books by my bed as I do have the habbit of starting a new book before finishing another. I have finished the second Game of Thrones book and am currently reading

Well after Jo Nesbo he will be next. I actually had a little giggle when I read your message. Need to read Mark Billingham at some point to as I have all of his books.
Well nearly finished my last Stuart MacBride book, will miss Logan and Steel
The nights are drawing. The time will soon be upon us when it's reading time with a hot chocolate whilst it's snowing outside. :rotfl:
Happy reading everyone and take care

Your photo made me laugh as well :rotfl:
I'll need to intercept him on his quad bike when he's looking after his cattle before Christmas to sign the lot for me. I bought 1 each to keep and 1 to give as presents to likeminded friends :rotfl:. The things we do for good neighbourly relations . No, I actually enjoyed reading number 1 and am looking forward to the others!

well howdy again campers :coffee:
last night I had a little binge read to finish off:
#55/60 The Gallery of Vanished Husbands by Natasha Solomons 4/5 - I really liked this book. the only reason it didn't get a 5/5 is because she had some favourite phrases and words that kept popping up throughout the book, which annoyed me a little, otherwise I think it was a quite lovely look at identity of self.
i'm still working on Rosamunde Pilcher and that old devil the Dalai Lama.
I also purchased another book, one that I have sworn (this time!) will be my last acquisition this year. it's a collectible copy of The House of Golden Windows by A. Harcourt Burrage, which had languished on my watchlist on eBay and was relisted after not selling. I saw this as Fate and so spent the £5.99 to add it to my collection of old children's books.
The Husband is getting rather twitchy about my bookcase overflow so I really need to knuckle down and read more...next up will probably either be the Game of Thrones series or the C.J. Sansom Dissolution series (as they're taking up a lot of space!)
happy reading!

oh, and I also would like to beat my target of 60 books this year anyway - 5 to go! - and preferably beat my best year logged of 70 books. eep! but then I worked out that, at an average of 50 books per year, it will take me 17 years to read my TBR list, so that should be encouragement enough, eh?Mortgage-Free WannabeMortgage at start [20/6/12]: £151,800/MFD Jun 2035 (age 65)Mortgage now [5/11/14]: £139,212.14/MFD Oct 2029 (age 59)Personal Library 2014:starmod: Read in 2014: 57/60 :starmod: In Progress: 2 :starmod: Books In: 94 :starmod: Books Out: 12 :starmod: TBR: 847 :starmod:0
