Just finished Gardens of Stone by Stephen Grady. Recollections of life in the french resistance during WW2. Very interesting and well written book. Highly recommended.0

I always stick to one book, always have done. It's a lot easier now with my Kindle, as I can take my book, whether it's big or small, wherever I go
Agree absolutely. One book at a time is by far the easiest especially for us oldies.
On the secondhand v new argument. I have resolved this year to buy secondhand wherever possible. Clearly better for the environment if as many people as possible read each copy. Also, saving quite a bit of money. Not having to wait too long for books to come up on ebay or Amazon marketplace often at £2.99 or less.0 -

thats why i have so many books, we have a mooch round the carboots every sunday morning during the summer and when you can pick books up for as little as 10p each (most paperbacks are 20p-50p each) i tend to stockpile when ever something catches my eye.
once read unless its an absolute keeper like philippa gregory, mitch albom or the book thief i let them go by giving them to people i think will like them, putting them on the shelf in the drs waiting room (sadly theyve taken the bookshelf out now) or charity shopping them. if i can i prefer to give them away as charity shops really hike the prices round here.
re bookthief, i was actually recommended it by a teenage girl from austraila or new zealand on the philippa gregory forum (which has now ceased and moved to fb) she said it was on the school reading list there. really cant thank her enough for sharing that one.SPC~12 ot 124

An interesting comment from Mrs M re what to do with books once read if not keepers. I have managed to get into a regular exchange with a chap who has a similar taste in books. Once they come back from him they go on ebay for a month. If then unsold they go to the charity shop.0

It is almost a month since I posted here, although I have popped in from time to time to see what everyone is reading.
I have read 2 Ian Rankin since then:- The Impossible Dead and Standing in Another Man's Grave, enjoyed them both very much, just started The Complaints (out of sequence as that is how they turned up in the CSs). I have been very naughty and bought a bundle of Jo Nesbo Harry Hole books from The Book People. I had tried ordering them from the library, but they are popular and spread all over the county, some books take ages to come through and then like buses they come along in bunches.
OH and I bought 3 brilliant non-fiction books Who's who in early Medieval England, Medieval England and Tudor England by Christopher Tyerman, they are a great accompaniment to all the historical novels that we have been/are reading.
Any books we decide not to keep go to one or other of our small local animal charity shops, or sometimes my friend and I do some swaps and then consign them to CS.

Finished The Missing One by Lucy Atkins (psychological thriller) last night and would recommend it - made a nice change from bog standard thrillers or chick lits. Need to decide what to read next - and do a count... jobs for this weekendMFW 2017 #123 2018: £1,852.64/£39,200 (4.7%)0
