  • glad you both enjoyed the book thief, i would have to put that in my top fave books list. watched the film last week and was surprised that i loved that as well, i normally dislike books i love being made into films as they never have justice done to them but this was definately an exception. i was in tears and totally rendered speechless at the end of the film. would recommend it. If you enjoy leaving the cinema looking like your emotions have been in a train crash and you are reduced to a jibbering wreck that is

I'm the same way Mrs Moneypenny! Although I am excited to see The Fault In Our Stars movie as John Green was kind of involved in the filming of it so I'm sure it will be amazing!

I keep forgetting to update this thread! I haven't bought any new books but that doesn't mean that I haven't been gifted them! Currently reading 'The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet' by David Mitchell and really enjoying it so far.

I am going to see this next week with my mum which is why I was keen to finish it beforehand. I don't mind seeing films of books I have read but don't like to see the films first if that makes sense. Will make sure I take plenty of tissues!!! The end of the book was bad enough :D

Hello everyone, I'd like to join please if you'll have me?

I love reading books and have a decent stockpile (and many unread on my Kindle too), but struggle to make time to read. I'm pledging not to buy any others until I get reading! I'll do a count this week and report back.

Currently reading The Missing One by Lucy Atkins and really enjoying it. Another one here who loved both the book and film of The Book Thief - a very faithful and well done adaptation IMO.

  • I couln't expect to find a better thread!

I don't know if this is the right place to share this - hopefully it is :) - but yesterday I bump into a book shop in Old Street tube station. There is good choice of books and the prices are just AMAZING. I bought 2 books from Nick Hornby for £3.99 each - they were both new and not even second hands.

Better thna Amazon and honestly, I really appreciated it and that the owner does.

I wish you all a really good day plenty of time to read

I really enjoyed the book and the film. The critics however appear to dislike the film and have been really critical. On Rotten Tomatoes 49% critics liked it compared to 88% of the audience.
Listened to Front Row on Radio 4 discussing the film and the book and the woman was scathing! Basically saying it was a teen book which I didn't realise when I read it and that the film would appeal to Americans adults because they are all operating intellectually at the level of teenagers!! Apparently the film wasn't bleak enough and too romanticized.

I do sometimes think that critics live on a different planet to me and I often enjoy books that the critics dislike and conversely some of the Booker nominated books I find impenetrable!

  • Hi all I'm still here. We've had a bit of a bumpy year so far so I haven't had much time for reading and shopping so until today hadn't bought any, however took three into the charity shop today and came away with two.

Would you recommend watching the book thief before reading the book or should I wait? It's been on my want to read list for quite some time, but it's on in my local cinema and as it's orange Wednesday I was thinking of going tonight.
