Sealed Pot Challenge #220 :staradmin :staradmin '16 £17.010 -
Finished Amande's Bed. I really enjoyed it, but anyone who wasn't familiar with the Aberdeen dialect might struggle. I'd give it :T:T:T:T
Also finished the Murray Walker autobiography, which was ok but nothing particularly special. He's had a very interesting life but doesn't write about it in a particularly interesting way so it drags a bit at times. Plus I feel sorry for his poor wife who for 50 years had to put up with him working full-time in advertising during the week and then commentating at weekends. I'd give it a :T:T:T for anyone who knows a bit about racing and less for anyone who doesn't.
Now re-reading my way through Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next books which are hilarious and just the thing for book-lovers as his heroine, Thursday, goes into books to solve problems and chase fugitives. In the first book she saves Jane Eyre from having an alternative ending. Currently re-reading book 3 in the series - The Well of Lost Plots - in which Thursday stands in for a character in an unpublished novel, attends an anger management therapy session in Wuthering Heights and has loads of other adventures. Definitely won't be getting rid of these books in my general book clear-out as I enjoy them too much.
Got rid of another 20 books to a charity summer fair, but (confession time!) gained 3.
Got a copy of Burned by Thomas Enger through the Waterstone's Card Read and Review competition. Looks like it's a Scandanavian crime novel so right up my street.
Also got a copy of Living Dolls: The Return of Sexism by Natasha Walter to review from the Virago Book Club First Look group. Looks good but will need to be paying attention I think rather than reading for relaxation.
Those 2 were free, but I did buy one book in Poundland yesterday - Sun on the Water: The Brilliant Life and Tragic Death of Kirsty MacColl written by her mother. I'm a huge fan of Kirstie MacColl and was really affected by her death so am really looking forward to reading this. Plus you could say I was being moneysaving as it only cost me £1 when it's on Amazon for £7.19...0 -
Since I've confessed to all my to be read books, I might as well confess to the ones that I have on the way as well!
These were either bought before my book ban (friday, lol) or wins from giveaways on blogs.
Uglies - Scott Westerfeld (Ebay)
Pretties - Scott Westefeld (Ebay)
Specials Scott Westerfeld (Ebay)
Frost Kisses - Kailin Gow (Goodreads win)
Russell Wiley is Out to Lunch - Richard Hine (Goodreads win)
The Superiors - Lena Hillbrand (Book Blog win)
The Chatelaine - Claire Lorrimer (Book blog win)
I *think* these are all I'm waiting on.
Currently reading Succubus Shadows (Georgina Kincaid #5) - Richelle Mead then I'm planning to read Princess - Courtney Cole, I loved her first book and noticed Princess on Amazon this week, had to get it, it was only 69p for Kindle as well!
I have the author on Facebook, and have done an interview with her on my blog in the past for her first book Every Last Kiss. So I'm really looking forward to starting Princess.0 -
Last night I finished 2 books yay!

I have sinned...but only a little one, I bought a copy of 'Stuart' with the Sunday Times offer, I got the voucher from a paper left at work so thought 99p was a good price to pay for a new book. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

LOL. Glad I'm not the only one - I've got the voucher all ready for a planned trip to Waterstones on Thursday...0 -

I have to admit I'm def planning to try to get a voucher for next weeks book too - so theres a pretty good chance I'll end up scouring the cafe area for the magazine with the voucher most weeks - but I plan to be strong, read and then sell on the majority of the books! It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

was a pratt with a capital p, as i gave a pile of books, and regret giving 2 away (again) to only buy them along with the other one in the series i needed, in the charity shop for 75p each although some are getting expensive and can be 99p upwords and seem to be creeping up.
must put a stop to it now, seriously as i keep doing it, and cant afford to?
now to think of a plan of action for it, like if in doubt walk away.0 -
Finished another 2 books today
The Forest of the Hands and Teeth (The Forest of the Hands and Teeth #1) - Carrie Ryan and Wintergirls - Laurie Halse Anderson
Currently reading I Wish - Wren Emerson0
