Had a good sort out of some of my books and was able to rehome some that sat thier not read or im not likely to read via the charity shop, plus possibly through someone at tai chi?
Now to keep what ive got in check or possible shift what ive read, not likely to read in future?
It suprising i find, how the book pile can multiply, or i can sift through them having a tidy to think, why on earth did i get that for - im not going to use/read that and so on.

I do find the signature helps, though: I really like being able to write a new, bigger number there when I've finished a book.

Hi Inapickle. I'm probably being a bit daft but what does the 5/25 Bought (10/11) mean in your sig?

JintyB - Please let me know what you think of the Harlan Coban book. I've only read one and although I liked it am not sure whether to try another. Probably will but an opinion would be good :)

.....oooh....ummm...not that I would buy one of course......other things to read first hence thread title.........:o

Sorry, that wasn't the clearest: my aim for each year is to read 25 books, so it means that I have so far managed to read 5 out of the 25 books. I managed 25 last year, so I put ('11) in brackets before to show that it's only for this year, but I've bought (in 2010 and 2011) 2 books so far. (Well, that's not technically true, but I've only bought 2 fiction books, and the rest have been needed for other purposes like studying, but I will make a point of laying off those a bit now as well. I inserted a few semi-colons and commas into my sig to try to make it read a little easier, but as I have to abbreviate everything to get it into those few lines, it's not the easiest! :p

    Hi Observer,

The Harlen Coben book is ok, it's not the greatest crime/thriller I've ever read but its reasonably entertaining. I got it via ReadItSwapIt, so in effect I didnt spend any money on it! (Which I'm quite pleased about!) That said, I would probably try another but I'd get it from the library - wouldnt spend hard cash on it!

I just finished 'Notes on a Scandal' by Zoe Heler.

It's very good. I saw the film a few years ago, but this is better becuase the ending is better.

It's the story of an old, female schoolteacher not far from retirement who becomes enthralled by a younger colleague. The fact that the older lady narrates the whole thing gives you quite a lot of insight into her character, and you find youself thinking 'hang on!' quite a lot. A lot of it is quite chilling. It is very, very well written.

    Clap rating: :T :T :T :T :T

Thanks Inapickle, I get it now :rotfl:

Jintyb - I agree with what you said, Perhaps i'll try the library, I haven't been in one for years though there is one about 15 mins walk from my house. That would be a good little excursion when i have a day off. I like to own books I enjoy and/or have a set of but I wasn't too sure about paying for another Harlan coban one so thanks!!

Edit: Oh except I've just looked on google and they are shut on my day off. Typical. Rethink...

That's a shame re library. Like you, I hadnt been in a library for years until fairly recently. I couldnt believe how much it had changed since my younger days! I'm very lucky with mine, its open seven days and till 8 Mon-Thurs. Once you've registered, you can order books online and they ping you an email to tell you when its ready for collection. It's brilliant and saved me a fortune! ( Probably more than I pay in Council Tax LOL!)

In a complete change of style from Harlen Coben, I've started "The Tall Pine Polka" by Lorna Landvik. I discovered this author many moons ago when on holiday in the US. I've read and loved all of her books - this is the only one I havent read! Enjoying it so far.:)

I only discovered the ordering online service at mine a while back, and thank God I did as it has become my new Amazon! If I were counting the totals of the books I have read from there, it would probably amaze even me, and the greatest delight of all is that I don't have to find a place to put them more than temporarily as they go back a week or so later (depending on how good the book is ;)).
