Finished Divided Souls on the bus today...was close to crying though! I had 2 pages to go and it was my stop!! Ran up the road as fast i could to finish those 2 pages!!

Also spent £17 on a book for uni today, not counting it as in IN as it's uni work, and i won't be reading the whole thing, just the parts that are relevant to my class. It is second hand from Amazon though, brand new ones were £40!!!! But this reminded me, i have a book from last year to trade in to the uni book shop! Can't put it on Amazon, as it is specific to my uni and they don't have it on there!

Also - totally forgot to nip into the library in town and pick up my library card!! I'll be back in for uni tomorrow though, so i'll pick it up then.

Have a few bits of uni work, and a Spanish translation to do then i think i will start The Legacy tonight!
  • I think i should join in on this, i have hundreds of books, lots are read but there are a growing number that are just sitting there and i keep buying more because they are cheap or on offer 3 for 2 etc! I'm in the middle of reading 2 at the moment just make myself feel better about having them all!

Once you start reading what you've got and start ticking it off a list (would definitely recommend making one as it gives you an idea where you are really up to and how far you have come), you naturally start wanting to buy less until you have read most/all of your books. I've found my local library to be a complete lifesaver as I can look at their catalogue online instead of submitting to the Amazon urge, and it has saved me a fortune in both money, space and clutter. :T I've still got quite a lot to go, but I'm definitely making progress and I'm really pleased I'm doing this challenge. I don't think I realised just how many books I had beforehand!

Finished The Legacy on the bus into uni this morning - WOW! What an amazing ending, did not expect that at all! I would highly recommend The Deceleration trilogy to everyone!

Popped into the library, got my card and took home 3 books :)
    So IN's:
Revolver - Marcus Sedwick (started this on the bus home, i've been wanting to read some his books for a while now!)
House Rules - Jodi Picoult (friend recommended this to me, i've read quite a few of her books in the past)
Sister - Rosamund Lupton (one of my amazon recommendations cause i added Room to my wishlist, so thought i'd try it)

I don't think i've been in a library since i was about 10, was very impressed, especially since it is just a wee one at the bottom of an art gallery in the city centre! Took me ages to find the Young Adult Section...mostly because i didn't want to ask! They also have a manga section, which i am very happy about as i read alot of manga, and books can be expensive, even on Amazon!
So i am now off to look at their catalogue online!

Also i was talking to my fiend in uni about books yesterday, and we got chatting about Room, she went and bought it! So she is going to lend me it when shes finished with it!

Oh god, just looked at my Kindle and realised that there are 112 books sat waiting to be read on it. And thats ignoring the two bags of physical books I haven't yet unearthed in the move!

There are almost three shelves more in the nursery but as the children are sleeping I can't get to those - will add those another day.

Oh, and someone at work has lent me five Kathy Reichs books (with no time limit to return them thank goodness!) and I have a set of ten children's books which though I SAY I bought them to read to the twins in a couple of years, I also bought to re-read and rediscover myself including my favourite book of childhood, Gobbolino The Witch's Cat.

Phew! Would you believe I posted most of this and then hit something and lost the lot??:mad: Was in two minds whether to do it all again but seeing them all listed here will (a) doubly make sure I know how many I have and hopefully stop me buying any more and (b) allow me to browse the list wherever I am and decide what to start reading next.

Finally, before I bore you all to death, I did start a Book Club at work today - put a big box in the staff room with a notice asking people to put good books they've read and are done with in for others to read rather than us keep leafing through the nine month old copies of Now! with bloody Jordan in!!

I realise my reading isn't all that highbrow but... each to their own. I read to escape, to have adventures I'll never have, to experience things I never will and reading is, and always will be, a massive part of my life. I just need to stop it making such a massive hole in my purse now!!

And what's wrong with that? So long as you love it and keep an open mind as to the possibility of reading something you like the look of that doesn't fall into one of your 'normal' categories, where's the harm in that. So long as you are reading, that's all that matters! :D

As for me, I just finished 'Not Buying It: My Year Without Shopping' by Judith Levine. In many ways it is very interesting, but even though it is written in the first person by the author and catalogues her and her partner's struggles to not spend money, it very much wanders into the territory of a socio-economic & political essay. It's almost possible to avoid, but perhaps if there had been a little more humour or warmth in the 'me' bits, it might have engaged some of the people who mentioned it on this thread but didn't like it a bit more. (I have to 'fess up, though - I just bought it on Amazon for £2.76 as I have a feeling that I'm going to find it useful enough to own for a project I have planned in the not-too-distant future.)

  • Okay confession time..

I was out yesterday and popped into what used to be Bargain Books, but now has The Works signage up and they had loads of books 3 for £5 so I bought 9 plus another one, so ten in total...then had to go to Easons and spotted another one, so bought 11 books yesterday (plus 2 cross stitch mags)...although it was with money my Mum gave me for my birthday.

I also had a whole tub of books for my aunt, but my sister in law phoned to see if I had any spare books so brought them up to her, so that was 54 books out..
    ;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)
