Following another thread that went grossly off topic and I have closed once tempers calmed and we all pretty much declared peace...

This thread is for the MSE aspects of where the cheapest formula of varying brands can be found, if you can think of any money saving ideas etc

What this thread is NOT:

It is NOT a discussion about breast feeding vs formula feeding - Please have the COMMON CURTESY to stay on topic. If you want to discuss FF vs BF - go start a thread in the Arms :) Thank you

So...

Apparently the price of formula has gone up... discuss :)

    You brave brave woman :-)

On a more serious note the price of aptamil still seems to be £7.90 in asda and boots avoid tesco its a whopping £8.50.

In Sainsburys, by the looks of it, Cow & Gate have raised their prices to £7.25 from £6.98. They're doing an offer of the 1+years though where it's £6.

Edit: Time to move on to cows milk I think.

We are regular Sains shoppers (DH works there, so we like to use the discount), and we noticed the price increase yesterday. It used to be £7-something, and now it's £8.40 (?) for Aptimil. I received a coupon in the mail for Cow & Gate follow on milk that was listed as for "6 months plus" ages, so we picked that up and are going to see how it's received by DS3 and go from there, as it's cheaper (although only by £1), but the follow on milk has coupons out occasionally so that at least helps a little. He's far too young to go to whole milk yet. We're a bit iffy about the follow on milk, I'm going to sit down with it and compare the labels with the formula this week, before we use it.

The only tip I have really is to look at how much your child is drinking and make up the bottles to suit. This may seem fairly obvious but here's an example - I regularly make up 7ozs bottles but Jack never takes more that 6ozs. That 1 oz less means one scoop in the box for another bottle so I plan to go back to 6ozs bottles until starts wanting bottles more regularly - he's not drinking much at the moment, 3ozs at a time so I've just made up some 5ozs bottles until he gets his appetitie back.

Jack is now on the Aptamil Comfort and its well over £8 but he's got a bit of constipation so I would rather fork out the money than see him in pain :)

I did put him on the HIPP Organic Milk for a week because it is about £6 and I did it to be MSE :money: but I found it was making Jack sick after each bottle.

Glam my bubs awas the same on the hipp it also looked a discusting grey colour not appertising at all. I put him straight back onto the aptamil and have no further problems. I know J is weaning i have found bubs will eat his food till the cows come home sometimes polishing off a jar sized portion of food i have found im having to limit this now or he wont drink his milk. So now he has a half portion and drinks his bottle if he starts to demand more milk i will up his food again :-)

Aptimil and milumil were always the most expensive formulas when I was b buying baby milk, though they were the cheapest at the baby clinics about half of the price. SMA was £1 cheaper when I had eldest 10 years ago so every about 5th tin was free by the time I'd had youngest 3 years later there was only pennies in the price difference. From reading posts I gather they don't sell milk at clinics any more?:)

How much does the next stage milk cost in comparison from 6 months - 2 years. I never bothered with this I just kept them on same milk from 6 months,. They were getting adequate iron in their diets and changed to cows milk from 12 months. Initially I had problems with son being sick when I swapped to cows milk but then I got told by HV to make the bottle up- say he had 8oz bottles do 7oz FF 1oz cows milk, let him have that few days then change to a 6/4 mix and so on. 3 weeks later he was on cows milk completely. DD though had straight change without problems.:)

Spendless it appears to be around the same price give or take a few pennies but the companies are allowed to give offers on the follow on milks so it can work out cheaper. I always used them with the other two i dont think there is much need to if they have a good diet but it did guarentee their iron intake supposedly :-)

It seems that formula must have stayed static for some time and then shot up in price...I was paying around a fiver for a tin back in 1993!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
