I read somewhere you can get roughly 28 240ml bottles out of a tin if that is correct then then it would be 224 but i dont know how accurate that is :-)

That'd be about 11.8 pints. 6 pints is £2.25 at my Tesco, so whole milk is cheaper than formula, but not by the huge amount I thought it'd be.

If I'm thinking right, then it works out at about 25p a bottle?

Did anybody watch Panaorama last week?

Apparantly follow on milk is all a big gimic! Yes it does contain a lot more iron than cows milk but the extra iron is not needed if the baby has a healthy diet. Cows milk is much healthier in these circumstances.

Yep, it was considered a con 14 years ago when I had my DS's, 8 years ago when I had my DD and still is today. It's just the formula manufactures ploy to keep you using their products longer, they know once you switch to cows milk and your baby is fine with it they've lost you forever, they'd much rather you kept buying their folllow-on milk for the next 18+ months.

On the Aptamil tub it says 1 scoop is 4.6g so a 900g tub gives you approx 195 scoops.

A 210ml / 7 fl oz bottle is 7 scoops so thats about 28 bottles to a tub....

Come on feelie you can work the comparison out from that now cant you...

PS never bothered with follow on milk and just had full fat from 1yr old

    PPS 568ml is a pint

Ahh didnt notice that on my tub the person i got that from uses sma so maybe the scoops are different sizes depending on which one you use :-)

Just an after thought if you can get more scoops out of different brands that makes aptamil even more expensive when compared to other brands!

I certainly won't be going the follow on/toddler milk route once DS hits the 1 yr old mark, but if it's less expensive and comparable to regular formula, I don't have a problem using the 6 month plus follow on milk from 6 months to 1 year.

It might be an idea to work out the savings over those 6 months, compared to extra cost of throwing out a tub, if there is a reaction.

One MSE thing might be to find a friend with an older baby and pinch a bottle of hers!.

Well, we bought one tin with a coupon. I don't mind the expense of one tin if I recoup that loss over the next month.
