Pee, they only see it as funny because of some sort of sisterhood thing.

I think it is funny and I am a bloke.
Betraying someone in a relationship is a lot worse then deleting a few emails. I also think even if the police got involved CPS would not be interested. not in the public interest, and cheating BF would have to give evidence in court if she pleads not guilty and it gets that far.

That's very different - there's no firm law or guidance which governs how people interact or percieve others interactions on the internet.

There is a very clear law on this - if you access a computer account or system owned by someone else without their authorisation, even if they had actually given you the password at some time in the past, and then go on to modify that system, you have breached the computer misuse act and that very simply is a crime.

The police service is all about detection rates. 1 clear reported crime is an easy detection for them, particularly given all the evidence is there and in this thread. It's a quick win.

Deleting some emails is not modifying the system though.

Yes it is. Those e-mails were there before, her actions removed them. The system has been modified.

So I have remote access to my employer's systems for my job. They gave me the password so I can do my job.

If I log into those systems and change details which I am not authorised to change, I have fallen foul of the computer misuse act.

In the same way, one of my neighbours doesn't have a password on their wireless network - I can get into it no problems but doing so would be a breach of the computer misuse act.

Does this help you understand it at all?

No because you are talking carp. The extract from the computer misuse act posted earlier sides with my interpretation (see 2b). It is still an offence to prevent someone accessing data but it's not a system mod.

Now do you understand or am I going to get more patronising cheek from you?

    And you work in IT!!!!

The police will fob it off because it takes specialist knowledge and they have beter things to do with their time.

My original OH did this to me a few years ago, I deleted his emails, forwarded what he'd sent to A) on to B) just so they'd know and then I set him up on a gay website and left his contract mobile number.
Result, sat back and watched the fall out. Stupid thing to do but oh......*sighs wistfully*.................... the sweet smell of revenge,
methinks revenge is a whole new thread. Its childish but allowed me to regain a little self exteem, and no..........I wouldnt do it again.

Morally i might think what she did is fair enough but it is against the law.

Pffft, if my bloke cheated on me, a few deleted emails would be the LEAST of his problems

OP - if he takes it to the police, even if they were to take it seriously (it might be a slow week) as she hasn't done anything malicious with the emails (missed her chance there!) she's not exactly going to get more than a slap on the wrist is she?
