maybe he would be better off expending his energies on thinking up a more secure password

hun - if she guessed his password and logged on as him - there is no way there could ever be charges against her.
Its a crime to intercept the royal mail, not the email! out here in cyberspace you are on your own!!!!
actually - I would have done worse than that! and there is nothing he can do about it!!!
so he went to cops and made a complaint, hmmmmm lets see
desk officer - so your girlfriend logged into your email and found out you were cheating on her?
    him - yes
desk officer - thats not a crime as such - may I suggest you dont make your password so easy to guess?
him - but what are you going to do about it?
desk officer - nothing (youre a prat but we cant lock you up for that)

I have no sympathy for him - he shouldn't have cheated and picked an easy password to guess.

She shouldn't feel embarrassed. Hurt, anger and upset - it's the ultimate betrayal. What's she's done is mild in comparison to some.

I'd be telling him to go to the police so they could laugh in his face - I'd also ask to go along with him - the laugh would probably do her good.

It depends on how busy the local police are I suppose.

If they can't get around to 'real' crimes (eg a street full of cars, inc mine, vandalised by drunks but not even a visit) they're not going to pay attention to him. Unless he finds the cop who charges people for blowing their nose! http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20100128/tuk-stunned-driver-fined-for-blowing-his-45dbed5.html

Why did she not forward all the emails to woman a, b and c to woman d, e and f and vice versa? Missing that chance is criminal!

The kh is only going on the attack because he's been found out.

Laugh at him and ignore it. The police would laugh him out of the station for wasting their time.

And if he continues, she should tell him if he does that, she'll go to the papers and tell them they were dirty messages to MEN...

    Ive done that !!:rotfl:

She has comitted a crime, she has breached the Computer Misuse Act.
OP, if the victim does report this to the Police, you will be a witness for the prosecution, as your friend has admitted to you that she has committed this offence.

maninthestreet - I think the Police would view this a domestic dispute. A very mild one at that also as there is no way of proving she did this, and all he lost was some personal emails. He didn't lose money or intellectual property.

So, I think, if anything they may give her a warning. But I don't believe that they will do anything further unless there are repeated incidents.

At least I would hope not, they have far more important things to be doing with their time, and I'd pretty disappointed if they wasted their time on this.

I hope he finds an equally destructive way of getting back at her frankly.
