    Hi guys,

I'm not a mum, but just saw this thread on the 'new posts' section and thought I would take a look for the fun of it. I've laughed like a mad thing, and think all you mums who formula feed deserve a medal. Don't get me wrong, I understand the notion that 'breast is best' and all that, but I have a fair number of friends who have become mummies in the recent past, and some of them have been having problems with the breast feeding and have had to 'resort' to bottle to give them enough to eat. The look of pain and guilt on their faces when they tell me this, though, is enough to think that they had abused them or something. Now I'm all for mums trying (and hopefully succeeding!) with BF, but I think midwives and other health professionals need to lay off just a little bit as there are lots of good mums out there feeling as though they are bad mums just cos of a bit of bottle milk, when they do everything else better than alright.

So, all you baby-coddlers, lay off, y'hear!

    Non-mum rant over! ;)

DD2 aged 14 has just been reading this thread (she heard me laughing). She told me that I wasn't a bad mummy, despite allowing her to eat slugs, spend the majority of her childhood stark naked, 'forcing' her to school when poorly, dressing her in boys clothes, overdosing her on ventolin etc etc......I suppose there's hope for us all!

Oh my God, I've come home!:rotfl: This is obviously where I belong! Thank you so much for this thread! DH & I have done most of the stuff on this thread. The trick now is not encouraging our oldest kids not to do these things with THEIR kids - while still carrying on doing them with our new little ones! ;) Have to act responsible, right? :p

As I am sitting here typing, DS3 is sleeping in his playpen in a sleeper with some dried butternut squash on the front, as he nodded off and I didn't have the heart to change him. My mother would be horrified - as far as she was concerned, children should be cleanly dressed & pressed at all times. :eek:She must really wonder where she went wrong with me.... :rotfl:

I left my children asleep in their beds while I went to the shop next door for cigarettes.

  • Well my Mum...

Used formula and bars of baby food
    Let me eat chocolate
Poured Calpol down my gullet when I was ill
Forgot to pick me up from school more than once
Let me have a very small glass of wine (watered down at first) with dinner on a Sunday from about the age of 7
Let me have a dummy until I was about 2

    And probably lots more...

But I turned out absolutely fine, and at 30 years old show absolutely no sign of any mental distress from my Mum doing any of these things :D

Im Nic and a mum to to wonderful kids

I Bf DD until she was 2 weeks old, then switched to FF as it was easier. I only Bf Ds until I was out of the hospital , I lied to the midwife as they were scowling at the girl in the other bed when she had to give her baby her first feed and she wanted to bottle feed. As soon as i got home I switched to bottles :o
At a couple of weeks old, ds would only sleep with the hairdryer on next to his bed, I used to leave it on the floor next to the cot until he dropped of (usually a couple of mins)
Ds also had a dummy and a taggie from 3 weeks old ( he still loves his taggie)
In the mornings dd has a remote next to her bed so she can switch on cbeebies until ds wakes us all up. She is 4 and wakes up really early.
I still send them to bed at 7pm every night (maybe this is why dd wakes up at 630am :o) I like peace to watch Eastenders.
I have given them breakfast for dinner. I figured it was healthier than the chips and tomato sauce they wanted.
I bath them twice a week unless ds gets blue gloop in his hair at nursery.
I make ds (2) do the dusting and dd (4) does the dishes some nights, they seem to like doing these things though.
I bribe them constantly with the promise of a treat or pudding.
I bribe dd with the promise of moving up 2 places in her reward chart if she tidies her brothers room also.
I believe in the 2 second rule...if it lands on the floor and is picked up in under 2 seconds, it goes back on the plate.

I dont think im lazy, ive just learned the things required to cut corners for an easier life. They are both happy healthy children.

You know what I've found most distressing and disappointing about this thread...............

No-one ever told me about the whiskey on the gums thing :rotfl::rotfl:

I just suggested this to OH as our poor baby is teething and nothing is working!
He's had Calpol, A&P Powder, teething Gel, my finger and a cooled teething ring and is still crying! (not right now, he's asleep - I'm not such a bad mummy that I would leave him crying while I catch up on here :p)

Sure I am going to get flamed for this and sorry for spoiling the party, but although most of it is lighthearted I am finding some of this thread really irresponsible.

You have no idea who is reading this and how impressionable they are - discussing giving babies alcohol, no matter however small the amounts might be is quite disturbing as you have no idea how it might be perceived by others and how your posts might be acted upon.

    Sorry guys :o

Well, my GP suggested giving my son a small amount of alcohol for wind and for teething - he said that sherry would be best but that whiskey would be OK as well.

They did it in the old days and it didn't do any harm. I would hope that nobody would be stupid enough to send their baby to bed with a bottle of whiskey - if they did then they aren't fit to be parents!
