Soappie - I think that offering her the occasional cigarette if you're going to be waiting at the bus stop and having a chat is probably the limit you should go to at the moment. If she continues to talk to you, you could offer to find out where she might be able to get help, but don't do more than put her in touch with people who know how to help. And if your social conscience bothers you, then a donation to or volunteering for a local homeless charity is the best way to make a difference.

I agree with greenbee on this one :p maybe the odd sandwich, chocolate bar, ciggie etc.....the sort of thing you MAY just have in your bag......anything more & she is going to come to expect it on a regular basis....you say there are a couple of them......how can you give to one without the other.....how many more are going to show up if word gets round you are "an easy touch"? I know what you mean about "There for the grace..." but it would be very easy to get into something that would be difficult to get out of........just my opinion :D feel free to ignore me :D x

(((hugs))) for the poorlies and anyone who would like one
soappie firstly be careful, but I know you will. Second one call I'd call Shelter and ask their advice on what you can do. Her being able to access things like a phone/internet are probably limited and when you pass it on say 'I don't know if you know anyone this information might help' instead of directing it to her might be more comfortable for you. I am almost sure there is a rent deposit support scheme in your area so even with private rentals not impossible. Some people unfortunately don't want to get out of being homeless....no matter what you try....frustrating when you are trying to offer support.

:o I had not realised there had been much snow around again, I know there was some on the hills here but not realised more down south. Hope you are all coping ok.

School meeting was ok, DS2s school are managing with him fine, couple of lack of information bits but no huge issues. He's staying there for now, means a lot of driving for me but while I can afford it he's settled. Then onto more yukky meeting, but it does look like I am speaking at the London conference. This means DPs having the kids for over 24 hours on his own, not something he's done before and that worries me more than speaking :rotfl:

Tonight, well both boys still wide awake.....but going to get my book out & try to at least complete what I should have done by tomorrow so I can start my new week a fresh.
One day I might be more organised...........

Don't buy Zanussi. I have had AEG (6 yrs) never a minute's trouble.

AEG are good but very expensive.. as are bosch.

I've had zanussi's for years and years and they are the best thing since sliced ham! Never a bit of bother.. especially the newer ones which are built differently.

I wouldn't have hotpoint, whirlpool/philips, electrolux (inc all derivatives) given.

I have promised DS1 and gf I'll buy them a new washer for their new house.. should be getting the keys Monday.. So i'll be seeing what I can come up with!

I'm home and have eaten. Utility room looks great.

Tomorrow I need to return the courtesy car by 8am  so may go to the gym afterwards (must check Saturday opening times). Then air the house (it doesn't smell like my house at the moment) and give it a good clean, sort out my meal plan and do the shopping, do lots of laundry and then get a decent amount of work done so I can stop getting stressed about it. I don't think I'm really up to much tonight though... possibly an early night with a book (I'd like a bath, but don't feel up to cleaning it first!).

Hopefully I'll get round to posting a list tomorrow...
  • Soappie - perhaps you could print off this leaflet from Shelter http://england.shelter.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/23358/Shelter_advice_booklet_homeless.pdf
and give it to her next time you see her?

    This page looks informative http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/homelessness/sleeping_on_the_streets

Like you say, the odd ciggy is fine but just be careful. She may be more vulnerable than you realise x

Soappie - see you have a heart of gold under that tough exterior. I have no better advice than the others. There is a homeless guy here, very local, who must spend his whole day travelling around on buses as he is always at a different bus stop. I wonder what his story is as when he first turned up he was quite smart. Life is so hard on some people. I know you have lots of contacts could any of them be of help? I know you are a wise soul but please take care and don't get too involved.

I'll be disconnected very soon as we need to move the pc for the work to begin so I will wish you all a good week and hope to be back next weekend.

    Love to you all xx
