Thank you for all your kind thoughts, folks.

I've tried all the usual remedies for poor sleep - warm bath, milky drink, lavender pillow, etc; even my usual methods of meditation don't seem to be getting me through this time.

So I shall carry your kind thoughts with me tonight and hope for a better night.:o

    Thanks again.

  • lamew - the thing is to break the cycle which is no mean feat! As another one said turn the nightmare around to being a positive one - as in you are a million miles away from the stuff you are 'living' in your dream so try and tell yourself that when you wake, think of all the positives in your life. I find a good book can help as you dream that book a lot of the time (well I do, so pick something slushy and nice, may help). But hugs anyway
Kazw - !!!!!!- you've only had a small drink where as I've had 3!!!! Have to be organised and prepare everybody. We NEED that time away, XH will have to put up with the 'inconvenience' of it all. He has his girlfriend and her 2 kids to help (they are 14 and 17)

    Evening all

    - sending you humungous good night sleep vibes. Have you thought of putting a notepad and pencil by your bed then, when you wake up after a nightmare, you write the details down, put the notepad back then curl up again and tell yourself you'll deal with it in the morning? It's a sort of partitioning - it really will help

Hugs Diva but it's clearly meant to be. if the OT lady has a cold, it's better she doesn't visit and infect you

Thanks Boddy and Poppytime - Mrs X to open would be wonderful - it would fit in with the historical perspective big time - as she's acted in period dramas...

Happy birthday Choccibix and Triker's DD

Sexym - sending flu gone vibes so you start to feel better tomorrow xx

Brodie1 - sending doggie benign test results your way. I know how you feel. BB had a cut out and biopsy about a year ago. Fortunately, it came back OK . But the waiting was horrible...

Hope you had a safe journey home RoseP

    1 step closer
    - sounds like you have the flu too - take it easy love

Dusty, hope you have a lovely holiday - have an apres ski for me ;) xxx

Greenbee - sending you knock 'em dead research writing up well within the deadline vibes xx

A busy day. I even hand washed the kitchen floor when I got in from work (no mean feat given the size of it!). But then I needed distraction therapy. I need some advice here ladies.

Occasionally, when I've stood at the bus stop to come home from work there's been a couple of down and outs sitting there with their diamond white and cheap beer. One of them is a quite pretty and not that street worn yet lady. I did wonder at one time if she was a case worker because she doesn't look that down and out.

Today she was at the bus stop and asked me if I had a light. I did, because I smoke, so I got my lighter out and gave her a light and then sat down on the bus stop bench next to her. There was another down and out sitting next to her who was clearly far further down the road than she is.

We got chatting. She's in her early 50s (though strangely, doesn't look it) and is sleeping rough on the streets for whatever reason for about 5 months it seems. She had taken the trouble to put on a bit of mascara and lipstick but not in a tarty way. She mentioned she had a house once and children and left it and has been told by the Council that because she's intentionally homeless, they won't help her ergo she's sleeping on the street.

Other things she said pointed to the fact she probably has a drink and consequently an associated anger management problem but also that the support agencies involved with helping people like her weren't particularly supportive nor were they really doing their job. She also talked, factually, but not in a begging way at all, about how hard it's been recently living rough because of the cold weather.

    What do I do?

I want to do something. I know the last thing I will do is give her money

    I KNOW I shouldn't get involved.

But, I don't know what the code of the streeties is. If I happened to see her again and happened to have a spare pair of warm socks in my handbag to give her would she be offended? Or a pair of gloves? I'm unlikely to be able to fit a spare blanket in my handbag, but I could put on in a carrier bag and carry it around, just in case.

Or, if I did do that, am I just storing up trouble for myself?

My social conscience is nagging me big time... and I'm thinking there but for the Grace of God go I....
