    Morning all

Thanks all for your advice - Triker, she knows where the local night shelter is (in fact it's very close to that bus stop which is why they tend to gather there I think). And lady l - you're right about giving to one and not the other. The other was a bloke who was a lot further down that rocky road than she and he didn't look at all well. He said nothing the whole time

She seems aware of where to go and what help's available. She was quite disparaging of the night shelter - she said that whenever she's been in there, the boxes of food that get donated never appear on the plates...she knows the restaurants and cafes to go to get "doggy bags" as she calls them. The council have said they won't help her because they deem her to be intentionally homeless.

I think I'll have a word with a couple of people I know who are involved with the more vulnerable in the area and see what I can find out. And yes, I'll be v. careful! I may just keep a bar of chocolate in my bag just in case...

Right, I need to bath then put the washing machine on and get on with the day

DH is home safe and sound :j, lovely to see him and the kids were SOOOO excited - he picked up DD from school and she was over the moon to see him! He's jet lagged (5 hours behind us) but he's normally pretty quick at getting over it.

Feel awful today; hacking cough, ears ringing, sinuses aching, stonking headache. Going to declutter a cup of tea and yet another 2 paracetamol.

Flying wise, I'll just do my normal dailies. I've deleted the other days from my list as I just can't do them at the moment. Want to make some bread and also some yogurt. Also got mountains of DH's washing to get through from US.

Pigpen, our dog is a Jack Russell and they're hyper little things. Think carefully before you do anything; I know they're cute but they are soooo much hard work. Puppies are a lot of work up to an adult dog. Only you know what is right for you, just don't let your heart rule your head :).

Off for my cup of tea ....

My extras (apart from daily jobs):

    1. Sort through kitchen drawers and get rid of stuff
    2. List hair straighteners, baby carrier, teething necklaces, swimming float, cosy toes, car seats on ebay / Netmums once all cleaned up and ready
    3. Book Pip into kennels for visit to Bude
    4. Book to go riding with DD in Bude
    5. Call HMRC and advise nursery fees gone up to £28.36 per day
    6. Sort out Pip's claim form - fill in and send to vets for completion
    Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting

DD2 REALLY wants a woofer... Bear in mind I have a house full of people, 6 cats, 3 fish and the 2 rabbits.. would it be incredibly insane to opt in for a small dog too (Jack Russel/Westie cross)

DSs and DH would love one, too. My main concern is the walkies, which is why I've said no, so far. I really don't need another responsibility to add to my dailies (especially when it's cold, raining and dark), DS1 can barely get out of bed for his paperround, DS2 is not old enough to walk a dog by himself and DH wouldn't want to do it all the time. Even if he agreed, we would then have the issue of nobody being in the house 8.15 - 4pm and who would have the dog in the holidays.

I like the idea of family walks with the dog on sunny days, but the downsides outweigh this at the moment. I'd much rather have another kitty - we are pet-less at the moment, but DH isn't keen. The kids would like a pet, but keep changing their mind as to what kind, so I'm leaving it for the moment. Not sure that helped.
  • Morning all, get a dog, piggers, you have plenty of people to walk and play with it. You will prob end up scooping the poop though!

We have decided we should get one this year.

    Piggers, re the dog.

I adore my BB. She is the first dog I've ever had. It was DS's suggestion 10 years ago. I thought long and hard and realised that what the real thing to think about is do *I* want a dog? Because ultimately, it would be *ME* that would end up caring for it. And it was, kids grow up, start dating, go out with friends and get drunk etc. etc. They start work, move away etc.

So that's what you've got to think of. Do *YOU* want a dog? If the answer to that is yes, then go for it gal, if the answer is it's only because DS or DD want one, then the answer's no.

Who will look after a dog when you go away at the weekend and the children are at their Dads?

It will go with her.. or come with us.. We already thought of that... probably go wherever she goes actually.

If you can manage 8 kids, 6 cats, 3 fish, 2 rabbits and KH and a OH ... what difference mess wise is one puppy going to make to be fair!!

Way I always 'tested' my childrens keeness on a pet was to make them do an age appropriate 'research project' on the pet, how often it needed walked, fed, cleaned, what food, how much was it going to cost, how much for jags etc. (all of which they get off internet or library), name choices, beds etc. If they can be bothered to do that, then you know they'll be bothered to look after them.

She has already done all this a million times over. This isn't a new thing she has wanted one since she was about 5.. before that she was absolutely terrified of dogs.

I have a huge garden so if if was too cold/wet to go walking it could go out there.. or could come on the school run.. DD1 is nearly 16 and DS2 is 14 so they could go in 2's to walk it.. It would definitely be after school so the'd be out of bed lol.. Also walking for little dogs is less important than for large hoppy floppy dogs..

M and D bought it for me. Spoilt, moi???

eta pigpen also think about how it will get on with any more babies (eg Jacob and Gf have another?) dogs tend to be good with existing family, but may not be so good as they get older with new members!

  • Oooh my head hurts!

I had my first ever migrane yesterday and some similar feelings have just kicked back in today

On the plus side I left the oven covered in Oven Pride last night and it was an wasy 45mins clean at 9am!

    All sparkly now!

Just getting some fluids down me before I tackle the rest of the kitchen

Plan for today is the kitchen and bedroom, leaving 2 for tomorrow which is ok and won't spend all day cleaning then!

On the dog conversations - I keep umming and ahhing about getting another one to accompany my Mr Dog who I have had for 2yrs now and he is a different person now compared to when I rehomed him. It was a tough journey at times but I wouldn't be without him now.

What puts me off having another hardy little one is if they will get on and as he is so well behaved the majority of the time I'm not sure if another one will be!
