Nor mine... *sigh* want some full fat hot chocolate to wash it down with whilst we're being bad anyway?

But we were all outsiders once.
And don't feel you have to keep up - it's impossible. Some of your pregnancy thread friends will be already there, and some will be graduating soon - they'll be happy to see a familiar face there.
(And no, we're not fluffy! Well, maybe the two resident dads are a little bit if they haven't bothered to shave). :rotfl::beer:0 -

if you want to posta question put it in bold then it won't get overlooked
I was lucky that I joined the pg thread when I was 6 weeks pg so know most people on the parent thread plus I used to lurk & ask questions.
It is a huge thread though and I find it becomes addictive and I worry that if I don't catch up & I miss something people will get upset - it has happened.
Going to have a break from it for awhile but you can guarantee I'll get sucked back in one day and become addicted again!A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -
It's funny cause I lurked on the PG thread a week or so ago and felt exactly the same as I did going into the parent thread
How very dare all these new people be having babies?! :rotfl:

No offence is meant here because I really believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, thats your choice as long as you accept that it may differ from mine.... but I thought that this was a thread about FF going up in price and not a mass debate on the pro/cons of FF/BF... didnt we just have that one the other week on the Parent thread!I bulk buy nappies when on offer - the current lot were 8p per nappy so 5 nappy changes a day = £12 a month. Formula lasts 5 days costs average £7 = £42 a month. Wipes/gripe water don't come to £26 so the child benefit mor than covers food & nappies!
Clothes don't need to be expensive either when I was pg I got most of J's clothes second hand from ebay, car boots & Freecycle - all designer gear
Where's your best place for getting nappy bargains at the moment? I think it was Morrisons for Pampers Active Fit (I do a spreadsheet to compare most weeks)I see some of your points SusanC but we don't go on and on about FFing children so why do a lot of the BFing army have to constantly slate us for our choices? And being as I have on here been told my reason wasn't "a good enough" reason then I beg to differ on the lack of attacks at people for how they choose to feed their babies.
To those who feel a need to lecture or judge us:
We formula feed - now leave us alone if you can't be a grown up and deal with that!
I quite agree with you MrsTine ( and miss you from PT)
I know what a lot of you feel about the PT as I never seem to get time to post as much as some people on there I feel funny going on there and posting a random question here and there but at least its somewhere to post... dont know where they get the time to do that thread and others, for me its just bad enough with one thread!! Plus I think its easier for some of them as they have met up with each other (cos mostly up north)
Sorry bit of a long post but hey hoMum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.0 -
I don't know how many of these "debates" I've contributed to on MSe over the years but it is too many.
At the heart of all of this is the sad fact that women are so judgemental of eachother. I breastfed. It worked for ME. Everyone knows it's the optimum way to feed but there is no way on God's earth I would judge anyone for choosing not to FOR WHATEVER REASON.
To me it beggars belief that women sit in judgement of eachother about this.
And as for the quote below....skintchick wrote: »HVs are obsessed with weight gain!I know it's important that babies gain weight but they do seem to take it too far. I have a friend whose baby is not gaining (not losing either) and she wants to BF but they are pushing her to use formula - that's what makes me mad.
You are right to get him weighted elsewhere - you know if your baby is healthy and happy and you don;t need pressure from HVs if the nurse will do ti for you instead.
They all need new training IMO.
No offence here but you have been a mother for all of 6 months. I really don't think you are in any position to demand the retraining of an entire section of the nursing profession.Having seen a number of your posts on how "best" to bring up a baby, I for one would have detested having someone with opinions as forthright as yours advising me when I was feeding my twins. I am sure you are doing what is best for you and your child but I did things a whole lot differently and am exceptionally proud of the way my girls are turning out.

Whoa, what a thread! I don't like the FF/BF debates (does anyone?) as they're anything but constructive or helpful.
However... Can I just please add an aspect to the whole "why is formula so expensive" question. This kinda relates to the link posted by Feely regarding BFing being 'the norm' as opposed to FFing being the deviation - and this is said in an impartial, non-emotive way, ok?
Having good vision is 'the norm'. Some (a lot!) of people do not have perfect vision (the deviation - not anyone's fault, no reason to feel guilty about it!), so they have to wear glasses/lenses, which are an extra expense that people who have perfect vision do not have.
Having a natural face is the norm. A lot of women choose to wear make-up, and therefore have an extra expense.
Not smoking is the norm. Non-smokers do not have the expense of cigarettes. Smokers choose to smoke (ok in that respect different from the glasses wearers scenario), so they have the expense.
Can people see what I am getting at?If you do something that is not the norm, you usually have financial consequences. The thing that is not the norm - be it formula, glasses, cigarettes, alcohol - they are all different, sometimes we have the choice of whether to use them, sometimes we don't - but the point is, it is not the natural norm, so it bears the expense.
Along the same lines, I strongly feel that as all women from teenagers to menopausal women have the monthly expense of sanitary protection, and there's no way to avoid it (even if opting for more eco-friendly substitues), that is one area where the goverment should be subsidising consumers. :cool:0 -
I know this isn't how you meant it but you realise that what that comes across as is that I wear glasses because I have faulty eyes - I didn't choose them. I have a genetic fault. I don't smoke and I rarely do make-up (ok fine... I'm too lazy to
)
It's not my fault I have to wear glasses (and trust me - NOT wearing glasses is not an option!) so I'm not normal now? And doubly so for not BFing? So it's ok and right to financially punish me for being "faulty"? Really?
I know that not how you meant it... but can you see how it could be seen as such?
ETA - I'm not having a pop - I see your point - frankly everything (normal or not) is financially punished these days - and to prove I'm not having a pop... you wanna piece of cake too?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

And that's exactly what I said - you have no control over your eyes - yet you stil have to pay for it. No it's not fair, but that's what I meant, anything 'extra' is more expensive.0
