You are all very naughty Mummies! Not as naughty as we used to be though! When I had my 1st [21 years ago] I gave him gripe water after his night time bottle. A couple of years later it was banned for being alcoholic! No wonder he used to sleep so well at night. We also used to make up bottles and keep them in the fridge for 24 hours, wean at 13 weeks [or 14 pounds] and give them tea in bottles.
My MIL was worse though. She told me my ex OH was fed on silvertop milk from a week old. My ex SIL fed her babies on carnation milk watered down. They are all perfectly healthy as well. According to my Mum that was what the 'rich Mums' fed their babies on.
Would just like to add, I never did this myself or am suggesting anyone else does it!

Ah well tubby you can't be in the bad mummies club then :P

I think I should win... I showered my baby in the adult shower cabin with ADULT soap (sanex for sensitive skin - hubby's LOL) (ok ok so it was that or try and traipse her around upstairs naked and covered in vomit when she had a tummy bug a few days ago... which she kindly passed on to me... She seems to have no lasting effects from her bug OR the shower though and it seemed the easiest way of getting vomit out of her hair... I left daddy to clean the cot lol)

Only if you drink a bottle of vodka a day as well.

Research has shown that just like in utero, baby will get any goodness from your body in it's milk. It will also be passed the toxins too, but it is suggested that the positive aspects of breastmilk still outweigh the negative so simple answer would be yes I think.

Chances are though if you smoke 40 a day and only eat pot noodles your not going to be smart enough to not smoke around baby so they would be getting the negative aspects with their formula anyway. Eurgh! Pot noodles, seriously, why do they make those?

We have had this conversation recently on the parent thread. You believe that it was best to torture yourself through the months of expressing, and the people around you that constantly worried about what you were putting yourself through, and have your friends and family genuinely worried for your state of mind while they watched you battle on. On the parent thread, we all read your posts day in, day out, detailing how depressed you were, how much of a toll the expressing was taking on you, you debating giving up.

When other people (like myself) say "breastfeeding didnt work for us so we switched to formula. I wish I could have breastfed but it wasnt to be", I wish you could accept that this is genuinely what they mean! We dont sit up all night every night wishing that it had worked, we simply get on with it and move on with our lives. I would never have put myself and my family through what you did as I feel that it is far more detrimental to a baby to have a miserable mother, attached to a pump all day every day, working spreadsheets on milk consumption, researching ways to up milk supply, not sleeping due to pumping in the middle of the night, than it is to simply relax and give them a bit of formula!
I'm sorry but I have to say that this post is really unfair. I don't want to say anything which makes it worse but whilst I appreciate that those of us who breastfeed do say things which may be hurtful/insensitive about formula feeding, I am not aware of anybody having made a deliberate personal attack of anyone based on their feeding choices.
