newlywed - I'm glad yesterday's interview went OK, and I hope today's is good too. Fingers crossed for you!

Today's plan (written out in the hope that I'll stick to it and not succumb to something unhealthy for dinner like the last couple of days):

Breakfast - two wheat biscuits with raisins and semi skimmed milk
    Snack - banana
Lunch - brie and lettuce sandwich; portion of marinated olives
    Snack - chopped mango
Dinner - bean and courgette burritos, topped with a weeny bit of cheese (i.e. not half the block like I usually do :o); pear for afters if I want one

That should be 7 to 8 portions of fruit and veg, too, which will partially make up for yesterday. ;)
Back after a very long break!

Hi Taplady, I couldn't find Tuscan bean soup but this is a Greek island country bean soup whilst I have the recipe book open!

    serves 6 - 4 tbsp olive oil
    2 sticks celery thickly sliced
    1 med onion thickly sliced
    1tsp cumin seeds, crushed
    400g can tomatoes
    1 tbsp tom paste
350g haricot beans (soaked & cooked per instructions or a can)
125g yellow split peas washed & drained
    1.5 ltrs stock or water
    1 tbsp lemon juice
    salt & pepper
    2 tbsp chopped parsley

fry onion & celery until soft, add cumin for 1 min, add toms & tom paste, beans & peas stir well and cover with water.
if using dried beans you can boil for 10 mins & simmer for 1 hr. if using a can heat through and simmer until peas have thickened the soup
add lemon juice, season and sprinkle parsley to serve.

A favourite easy diet recipe for me is:
chicken in a yogurt crust - serves 4
1 garlic chopped, 1 inch piece of ginger chopped, 1 fresh chilli chopped, 6 tbsp low fat natural yogurt, 1 tbsp tom puree, 1 tsp ground turmeric, 1 tsp garam masala, 1 tbsp lime juice, salt & pepper
    mixed above together
put 4 boneless chicken breasts on a oven proof dish and cover with the yogurt mixture
    bake at 190 / gas 5 for 30-35 mins
serve with lime wedges and a salad - can be sliced and served cold or as part of a salad.

    Hello all!

Can I join? have been needing to lose a fair bit of weight for quite a long time, was doing quite well about a year ago...then went through some dark times, weight was last thing on my mind and suddenly realised I was back at my heaviest again :(

So last week decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and started meal planning and exercising, drinking lots and lots of water and logging everything online- which seems to help me stay on track!

Been reading this thread all week and think it would help to have some support, v difficult at the mo as am trying to get hubby to put ON weight while I try and lose it! Can you tell that we handle stress/grief differently??? At the moment I am just giving him larger portions of everything...but it's not easy!

    thanks!

    Hi Mrs Woolfe,

I have the same problem as my fella works physically so needs lots of calories, last night was a classic as in - Him; would you like pudding & custard, Me; No, Him; oh yeah you don't like custard, Me; no a love custard I just don't have any calories left to use, Him Oh! (wish I could find that bang's head smiley!)

I try not to eat the carbs with dinner (ie rice, potatoes, noodles) or have a really small portion and fill my plate with veg / salad.

I buy single pot desserts like treacle sponge / spotted !!!!!! so that nothing is hanging around.

Also mackeral is calorie ladden but its easy to cook when I have salmon which is a really health option. He gets twice the meat I have.

Stress is a tough thing to handle and we all cope differently, well done for moving forward, take one day at a time and remember losing weight is not a race.

    My food today is:
B: 2 Toast one honey, one peanut butter
L: ham, mixed peppers, sweetcorn wrap
    S: banana
D: lasanga & peas (unless I shop for salad - which is unlikely!)
  • Welcome Mrs Woolfe.
I have found it helpful just writing down what i have eaten.
Also helpful to see other,s meals /struggles too.
    Stress is a strange one.

As you have indicated peoples reactions to it.
I learned recentley that being in a state of stress can affect your hormones ,cortisone I think and can lead to weight gain. someone sent me an article on it, particularly for women and girth fat if you see what I mean.
Well done for taking the first steps.
