blondie at this time of year warm salads are always welcome in my house. A stem of little vine tomatoes warmed in a frying pan with a spray of fry light, very lightly steamed spinach wih chopped walnuts, crispy bacon, potato salad, roasted squash, grated carrot and beeroot, the options are endless. I don't dress unless I have visitors then it's a tablespoon and a half of olive oil, 1 of white vinegar and a good twist of black pepper. You can adjust to suit but that's the mix which seems to get the most complements :)

    B - pear
L - sausage, egg, onion, tomato, mushrooms all dry fried on a silicone sheet, with a slice of toast
D - crispbreads wih vegemite, peanut butter, rf cheese
    Snacks - usual fruit

Sparrer - that lunch sounds yummy! May try that on the kids, never thought of putting boiled eggs in with the pasta and pesto...
Blondy - yours sounds yum too though I don't eat mackerel but DH would. Just not the salad part!

Mu lunch was a free weight loss meal that arrived today (think it was on grabbit a week ago). Chicken curry, was actually quite edible and at 333 calories it was pretty filling too. Could have made a dinner with bread and butter or some veg.

All this Christmas baking and fudge making is ruining me! I keep having to taste things, just can't help myself...
    Roll on Januray... please!

On the plus side, when I weighed yesterday most of my gain had gone so I am hoping that by Friday I may be under 163lb. We shall see though. Missed swimming last night as mood and energy was awful, think I messed up with my thyroid meds by not taking them until the evening the day before as by 11pm I was full of energy and in a really good mood again. I was in such a foul mood during the day though... poor kids :(

On the plus side, I had dinner really early (4.30) and managed not to eat anything else in the evening despite very grumbling stomach. (Almost makes up for the fudge!)

I really need to reduce carbs I think, especially sugar (would help with the mood swings). I was looking at the Dukan diet book's (written by a French Nutritionist) reviews on Amazon. Though not particularly old style and certainly not cheap to follow for the first week (Only protein), it does look like it reintroduces you to food very sensibly and I may find I resort to buying it if I struggle too much more with the last stone. I think I NEED strict rules to stop me from 'just' having a 'tiny' bit of this, that and the other... it's adding up!

Another busy day here. I had my exercise class this morning followed by lunch out with some of the class members as it was our last day this year. I've also done a couple of hours for DS at work this afternoon to cover till the regular staff arrived at 7. I'm afraid I was rather naughty at work yesterday as someone had left a large tin of Quality Street out with a notice saying 'Help Yourself'. I was more restrained tonight and only had 2 - yesterday was rather more than that!!!!

B: Muesli with skimmed milk and extra sultanas
L: Pizza Margarita with mushrooms. 1/2 Eccles Cake
T: Poached egg on toast. Other half of Eccles cake
    2 toffee Quality Street chocolates

Exercise: 1 hour of exercise class which we did on the stability balls today. About 3 miles of walking with walks to class, restaurant and work.

Well, first time back on the forum after a good 12 months - Just thought I would stop by and share my progress in my new "healthy" life-style and what I have achieved so far.

Just to summarise; 2009/2010 were bad years for me both health wise and financially, however the latter has only got worse but that’s irrelevant. So, minus the sob story.... 3 months ago my day to day eating habits consisted of McDonald’s breakfasts 2-3 times per week, Gregg s pasties or Scabby sandwiches from the van type stuff, ready meals and alcohol at least 6 nights out of 7 plus about 4 chocolate bars per day.
To cap it all off 15-20 fags thrown in for good measure, however I have yet to stop smoking but have managed to reduce to 12 per day or less.

All this was starting to hurt my body and my mind, not to mention my self-confidence and they way I viewed my self, paranoia, excess perspiration, smelly, lethargic, sugar rushes causing me to fall asleep at random times of the due to my insulin levels spiking out of control, sex drive 0%, no energy, depression, anger, mood swings and general hate for people.....the list goes on.

This was me 3 months ago, 30 year old bloke heading for disaster, until I woke up one day and cried when I stood in front of the bed room mirror and looked at myself, yes blokes do cry but most will not admit that they do, more so in a public forum however I am trying to paint a realistic picture of events over the last 12 weeks.

Now, circa mid September 2011 I joined my local gym at the leisure centre, signed up for a £28 monthly membership, went a couple of times then found plenty of excuses not to go like; "Al give it a miss tonight and go tomorrow instead" and "Missing one day won't matter" etc etc,
Then I started going to the gym with a mate, which started off around 2 days per week, slowly moved to 3 then 4 at present. Wow, the feeling after working out was amazing, so was the fact that I was not sitting in the house munching and consuming alcohol.

    So, how have I done?
Well back in September this year I was 16.5 stone, 38" waist, no upper body strength as all my muscles had went to jelly. Today I am a little over 13 Stone and a 34 waist is a slack/comfortable fit, due to using various weights/machines at the gym I now can see a sharper definition to my upper body, the belly fat is being stubborn and taking its time to move but is going down!

Health issues have improved 100%, no perspiration issues, so going out worrying about big wet patches under my arms is not an issue any more, no longer getting insulin spikes, no more random power sleeps at work or in the house, my diet, listed below is stable and balanced and as for my mental state - happy, despite being 3 quid off bankruptcy I am happy and my state of mind has changed so much for the better.

There is no magic pill, there is no hypnosis or pep talk going to make these changes in my life - only I can do.

The story goes on, I will report back with progress soon and once my goals have been reached I shall post before, after and during pics if that is ok with the forum staff/rules.

Please see below my eating plan and gym plan.

Breakfast: bowl of Lidle whole grain muesli and skimmed milk, cup of coffee half a teaspoon of brown/unrefined sugar

10am Break: Coffee no sugar and 1 medium/large banana

Lunch: Chicken, Beef, or Fish served with Brown Rice, Brown Cous Cous or Brown Pasta (If you want details on recipes let me know)
Afternoon Break: Coffee no sugar, banana

Evening Meal: Same as lunch, maybe spag bol or curry, fish with rice and steamed veg? Like I stated if you would like details on the receipies let me know.

Post Gym Workout: Banana or other fruit, fast carbs and good sugars for muscles after being worked.

Pre Bedtime: Full tub of Tesco Low-Fat cottage cheese with pineapple, herbs etc - only 64p and has hardly no fat but provides your brain with slow releasing proteins while sleeping instead of your body breaking down muscle tissue for amino acids etc.

    Gym Workout Routine:
Bike 10mins high intense cardio about 150 cals
Cross-Trainer High intense cardio about 150 cals
3 sets of 15 reps on upper, middle and lower body weight machines and to finish off about 10mins back on the bike or cross trainer = 1Hour in total.

Thanks for reading and sorry for the long script. :)

Wow Proliant that is a very impressive weight loss, well done! I agree, it has to be a new 'healthy lifestyle' rather than a temporary diet. You are right, there is no magic pill, there is no substitute for hard work and learning to control eating habits. Thank you for sharing your story.
    Keep up the good work!
