*sigh* put on 2lb and back to 13st for heavens sake. Must try harder! I seem to stall at this weight and just lose and gain around it. Did another wii workout and went for a walk this morning so at least the next weigh-in might be nicer if i continue.

    So far today had:

    B: apple
    L: 2 potato waffles, 1 poached egg (300)
S: bit of lettuce and 2 cherry tomatoes in low-fat dressing (50)

If i get any cooking done will have hm veggie shepherds pie or chilli tonight

  • Would the skimmed milk sauce freeze ok with both the cornflour and arrowroot version? I would love to use this to make fish pie for freezing.

did u know u can make a white sauce with skimmed milk and corn flour to thicken, work s an absolute treat and is soooo low in fat!

put garlic or something in it to give it a bit of flavour or use in lasagne, fish pie, what ever.

    xx

Yes hot.chick - I have done this in the past, but, well, how to explain, I found it tasted a bit too diet-ish, so I haven't done this for a while. Adding some garlic sounds like a good idea, though - I'll give it another try next week when we have roast veg on rice, which really needs cheese sauce.

you could also put in a dollop of extra low fat cream cheese, they do it in all sorts of flavours, will make it have a creamyer feel to it.

I do this with campbells 99% at free soups too, to use as sauces for chicken or what ever you like,

what other foods would you like us to 'diet up' for you

Now that is a truly great idea! The low-fat 'boursin'-style cheese is good here in France, I use that a fair bit. That would definitely do the trick.
    Thanks for that!

You heat the skimmed milk to just boiling, then mix some corn flour and water to make a runny mix, then add the paste a little at a time whisk into the hot milk til it's the thickness you want.

One virtually fat free White sauce!

I always use long life skimmed, it's a lot less watery than non long life, or use semi-skimmed that'll work just fine too :-)

You could use arrow root powder in the same way ...

Nutmeg in the white sauce is also very good :D
  • Hi All,
I've decided to join this thread (hope it's not too late???) as I've reached a stalemate with my weight. I'm not particularly overweight BUT I'm just bordering on the edge of my BMI limit and I'd like to be around 10lbs lighter. I just keep making excuses for not dieting and to be honest I hate structured diets and they don't seem to work for me.
So I'm hoping Weight Loss the Old Style way will be the one for me! My problems are:
    1. Boredom. I have a sedentary desk job and seem to just want to eat all day. I control it when I go into the office by bringing my own food in, so I'm limited to what I've brought. However, office birthday cakes are my enemy.....Also, when I work from home I'm very close to my fridge and cupboards....
    2. Motivation. I keep making excuses as to why I can have that treat/large portion. It's like I don't want to lose weight enough! I'm just a girl who can't say no...;)
    3. I love cooking/baking. My DH and two DSs are great eaters but I love baking and the stuff just doesn't get eaten quick enough. I also hate waste so would rather eat than throw away.
    4. Stress eating: I wish I was one of those people who lose weight when they're stressed. I'm not. I pile on the weight as I literally stuff food in my face when I'm stressed. I don't even taste it! I just eat it really quickly as if I'm trying to take away the stress by shovelling grub in my gob. Luckily I'm not often stressed....:rotfl:
    5. Fear of being hungry. Again, a problem for me. If I haven't eaten for...oh..2 hours, then the hunger pangs start which sets off an anxiety chain reaction in me. Cue, stress eating again. I think it's a low blood sugar sensitivity problem as I get cranky when I'm hungry. (but I'm not diabetic).
Anyway, hopefully by posting on here it will help me keep motivated. I run when I can, although I've taken a break for a gallbladder removal op and I've piled on a few pounds. It's been a few weeks so I can now start gently breaking into it again. I also have a Wii which is good for weighing and doing gentle exercises.
Hopefully I won't eat more to accommodate the extra exercise like I normally do....:o

Thanks for reading, I'm aiming to lose 10 pounds by 25th of April. Here's hoping!!
