Hi all, I hope to join in soon as a way to help my Husband loose some weight. I obviously love him what ever size he is but it is really getting him down. He is over 6 foot but we went shopping yesterday for some new tops for him and even the 3xl tops were too small and it has left him really deflated.

Half the problem is we both have huge appetites and I love to cook for people to make them happy...so think nothing of giving Hubby naughty extras which add to portion sizes a lot.

We have made changes in the past and they have worked well, with that and swimming my Hubby has lost a bit of weight but then we fall off the wagon and he puts it on again and a bit more.

Anyway, sorry to harp on! I was wondering if there is a recipe thread on here so I can meal plan with a few new ideas?I couldn't seem to find one in the first few pages.

    Thank you!

Thanks for the messages of support. I weighed myself today - starting out at 14 Stone!! Grr... but downwards from here.

I wasn't too bad yesterday. Cake and Choc at birthday celebration. But not much, and I didn't have any other junk.

    Todays plan of action:
    B - bran flakes + coffee
Snacks - melon+apple / kiwi with homemade yogurt (and lots of coffee)
    Dinner - Roasted chicken/boiled spuds/steamed veg.
Supper - Home made brown bread with smoked salmon

Heading out for my constitutional now. 8Km circle around a reservoir up the road from me. Never gone all the way around as Mr. Frugal not a big walker - I'm on my own and it's not raining - and looking at forecast if I get out now, should be fine!

Hope everyone else is getting on well!

Hi SmithyJules, Not sure if there is a recipe thread - I've only just started on this.

But some suggestions. If you're hungry, have a glass of water. I know I frequently mix up thirst and hunger.

If you've big appetites, make sure to have enough protein. This is expensive and not always very weight reducing friendly if it's all with meat. Look up some dishes with beans / lentils.

Learn to make soup instead of sweet treats (okay, I only do this in the colder months...I'm in denial that it's warmer this month). If you make your own soups, you can minimise or cut the fat, up your intake of veg and stave off hunger for v. few calories. Start your main meal with a homemade soup.

Make treats and rewards the non food variety. E.g. a cuddle in bed ;), a fancy box of tea or coffee, time to read the news paper, a new herb plant, a long soak in bath, etc...

Writing down everything you eat helps you understand where your weaknesses are and keeps you honest to yourself.

    Best of luck!

HI Frugal, thanks for that it's a real help.

I've thought about lentils and beans before but porr hubby has a vegatarian mum and was all lentil-ed out as a child and shudders at the though of such things lol. We have progressed to oats to lessen the meat content in sauces so thats a start!

I plan to do what we've done before and go back to using more poultry and fish including turkey mince. I found using fry-light and a non-stick pan great. Especially as then with the aid of a lid to steam the tops you can even have naughty fried egg to go with your turkey rashers for breakfast now and again;).

I also used a little water/stock to soften onions/garlic rather than oil and even put fry-light and garlic along with salt and pepper into a jacket potato which is quite tasty with a bit of home-made chilli/bolognese.

I think something I've noticed recently is how I have gone back to putting meat and potatoes onto the plate first and then squeezing a bit of veg on the side. Now going back to piling up veg on the plate first, then a small portion of protein then potatoes.

Looking forward to reading al the tips from others x

Afternoon, all, and welcome to the new posters. :hello:

I wasn't very good yesterday - too much salt and fat, too much alcohol, and not enough fruit and veg (I didn't even reach my five a day, which is practically unheard of for me :o). However, I spent a large chunk of the day working on the seafront in a gale force wind, and must have burnt off a fair few calories just keeping warm. smiley-sad018.gif

Today has been marginally better but I'm suffering from a severe case of CBA which is undermining things a bit! :o

Brunch - bacon sarnie ; box of mixed dried fruit
Dinner - indoor BBQ (as the weather is far too miserable for a proper BBQ): beefburger, pasta salad, spicy carrot salad, HM baba ganoush, plus a glass or two of wine

Exercise - walked into and around the shops this morning; I intended to do some gardening this afternoon but it's wet, windy and miserable out there and I'm struggling to summon up any enthusiasm for it, so that might have to wait until tomorrow.

    Good luck to all. :)
Back after a very long break!

HI all, welcome Newbies, well done losers.

Back from camping and blimey it was way more stressful than I thought with 3 under 5s, but we stayed 2 nights instead of 1 to get the kids used to it. Poor baby (16 months) was very confused the first night!
Spent most of the weekend walking around the 10acre showground and back and forth to the portaloos so have probably lost weight as I don't eat an awful lot when I'm camping (avoided the burger vans, though did have bacon and eggs and a burger, why did I take them with me?!). Will weigh in the morning.
Got to unpack it all now...

Tried to be good but I've got a fridge full of food to use up by Friday, so todays menus went like this -

B - egg, onion, mushroom, tomato, lf sausage in frylight, 2 slices WW wm Danish. Grapefruit juice

L - Toasted half fat cheese sandwich on WW wm Danish, sniff of pickle

    T - 1/4 melon, Muller

Snax - grapes satsuma, apple, banana. Lots of tea with sk milk

Early night tonight as I have to leave at 7am, going to DB/SiL for DM's 90th birthday celebration lunch :). It's a buffet so hopefully there'll be plenty of good choices, except the cake of course but luckily I don't have a sweet tooth so will just have a sliver to acknowledge it.

A random motivational tip I read somewhere ages ago...

Make a chain of paperclips with each one representing a pound of your excess weight, and then subtract from it every time you lose one. If you're keeping your efforts private, to everyone else it's just a chain of paperclips. Keep it stuck up by your desk, or stick it to the fridge with a bit of blu-tak so that it swings about a bit when you open the door and prompts you to ask yourself whether you really need to go poking about in there. No idea whether this works, but history is littered with dafter weight loss ideas so you never know :)

skipped breakfast! (had to drop the car off at 8am to the mechanic) - then had a friend around and then we had enough (kids are home due to lack of car) and we went for a walk along the high street.
resisted all the cakes and pastries :j:T - did buy 2 small turkish breads so for the park!
