Hi Puss14, welcome and hope you manage to steadily loose some weight. I know what you mean about money being tight and having to use up what you have. In the past, when I have been on a diet I have bought lots of low calorie treats to keep me going but now I have to manage with what we have and that means stretching the meat by making pies and cobbler sometimes, sausage casserole and blackberry and apple crumble because we have loads of these in the garden which I don't want to waste. So it means smaller portions of these rather than cutting them out all together.

I don't know if you have read through the thread, but I have been trying to loose weight by eating six times a day. The logic behind this is that the metabolism speeds up when you eat so eating six smaller meals and snacks raises your metabolism. It also keeps your bloodsugar level and helps to keep the hunger pangs at bay.

    Anyway, today was:

    B: 1oz minibix
    S: Pear and Melon
    L: Homemade veg soup
    S: More soup
    D: Chilli and rice
    S: Porridge with sultanas

Hope your all having a good weekend.

  • hi all, fell of the bandwagon again lastweek, but trying to get back on again.
now as suggested im trying to not think 'diet' but 'healthier' eating.
so i had proper porridge oats made with 1 third water and 2 thirds semi milk, some sort of sandwich and flapjack for dinner as im in work, but not sure on lunch yet? prob beans on toast or soup and mashed potatoes.
trying to curb my comfort eating still at the moment, so here goes.

Welcome Puss14 - be sensible about what is eat is the best thing long term so you're setting out on the best footing.

I have had to cut out all caffine previously for a medical study I did, I found cutting down slowly is best as caffine withdrawl gives you terrible headaches. The squares of chocolate (plain if possible) will be good for keeping this at bay but also tea and coffee.

I didn't end up going out on Friday due to one of my pets being poorly but I did end up eating better due to being at home :).

Weekend was OK but my mum is still with me (til this weekend) so had fry up breakfasts and then wine in the evenings :o.

    Today:
    B: yogurt & banana - 250 cals
    L: chow mein - 550 cals but only £1!
S: handful of mixed tropical fruits & apple - 100 cals max

D: coronation chicken, left over mash (just a spoonful planned) and whole sweetcorn (lidl currently have these for 19p) - not sure on cals as mum made C. Chicken but think it was light yogurt.

I can sympathise with the cola withdrawal symptoms. I had to give up cows milk, eggs and a few other things as I was having loads of stomach problems and had a blood test which showed I was intolerant to these things. But the withdrawal symptoms were terrible. I think they lasted about five days, so maybe you are beginning to feel better now?

    Today was:
    B: 1oz mueslie/dried fruit
S: Apple, slice of melon, banana
L: Salmon, couscous, chopped onion and tomato
    S: More of above
D: Pasta in homemade tomato and veg sauce with a little chopped bacon
    S: 1oz mueslie/dried fruit

We chhanged to goats milk a long long time ago as I was advised it would help with my coughs, asthma and skin issues. It was amazing the difference it made. I still eat cows cheese but less of it. Tests showed I was intolerant to yeast of all things. I found it a really hard thing to cut out completely - I mean, no more marmite!!

Been fairly good(ish) over the past few days but no exercise, the weekend finished me off!

Bfast - egg with beans and mushrooms
Lunch - mixed mexican style beans with new pots plus mango yog
Tea - veggie shepherds pie topped with sweet pot mash
Sn- spiced fruit biscuit (or two)
To those who are given much, much is expected

        £2025 in 2025 = £680.60
          Food Budget £180/9.30.

Yeast was also one of the things on my list. So with no dairy, eggs or yeast plus a few other minor things, my whole way of eating had to change. One of them at least is in everything.
Eighteen months on, I have tried to re-introduce some things but have found that more than one piece of bread and even that sometimes is disastorous. The milk, I wont go back to as I know that it is notorious for things like allergies which were much better after I stopped having it. Makes dieting harder though as already so many things to think about before start cutting calories and fat. Not doing well at losing weight but certainly eating healthier atm. Not sure what I'm having today yet but had porridge with sultanas for breakfast and going to get some fruit now.
