    another great Lesley recipe !:T:T:T

Hey are you going to share your planner Lesley?

Is it based on your own non-negotiables?

I'm back now sorry about the delay, shopping took lots longer than I intended :o

Sure, I'll share if you want, little way to go yet.

We have lots of fresh fruit and veg, so after being on here, I really wanted to see what that meant for the budget. I am now tracking the food spend separately from everything else and splitting it into 3 - fruit, veg and everything else foodie. It is building up this month, but the CoOp has been selling stuff we buy in offers, so we now have lots of bottles of olive oil, 6 400g pks cheese, loads toilet rolls and a couple of chickens. I have also been getting WM bread reduced to 40p, so I get a couple when I see them and freeze them

I have built a list of probable dishes, and am now in the process of pricing them and deciding what veg to have when and how much to price that at as I often use whatever veg I can get from the cheapy box. And as I am pricing things, some dishes are rejected and something else put in its place. I have 4 pieces of fruit most days, and 5 portions fresh veg, as well as any f+v that are in cooked stuff. DP doesn't have so much fruit unless I prepare it and give it to him, but tends to eat whatever veg I put in front of him.

Not sure yet how much nutrition info I will be including as data is only data until it is used as information, and what will I do with the nutrition data? Not sure

The bacon turnovers were lovely BTW, I fried them in the dripping I got from the bones from the butcher. We had 2 each with some beans and a fried tom, yum. DP said he would have liked them more if they had a bit of onion and mushroom inside as well as the bacon, but that's ok, I'll do that next time

thanks Lesley that's really interesting. Do you have a price per day you're aiming at if you don't mind me asking?

I'm intrigued that this lovely team we have here seem to have quite different non-negotiables than the wider surveyed population.

    I wonder why that is?

I picked a really unpopular answer in the poll, I noticed. I wonder what that's all about! :D

I won't be filling in the tea survey as neither me or hubby drink tea or coffee, we both never have. We drink water most of the time and a hot chocolate in the evening or if we have had a stressful day, like today, during the day too as a treat, unless we resort to chocolate! At work I drink ribena, because I don't like the taste of the water, but thats only because they were selling it at 59p a bottle in home bargains and I bought a few bottles. When its gone, I will take in my own water. I do treat myself to a flavoured soya milk occasionally too though, not something you could do on this plan though. I know we are not the norm!
Its interesting to see how people differ though.

I don't think I will manage to get the rissoles done this weekend, as its our wedding anniversary tomorrow and we are off out for a picnic and long walk. Taking pasta, pasta sauce and veg in a flask for lunch and nut butter sandwiches for tea. We are also going out to visit mum soon as can't visit tomorrow for mothers day. Will be on again later.

I like the look of the shortcake. Busy printing them off now in the hope of getting some testing done soon. How much lemon is in the breakfast pancakes?

Actually that's a good point- people need to know that NOT all of the recipes on the blog are for B and S, they are older ones from the 50p days.....

Shall I delete them... bit reluctant to do that...

    Erm, any advice folks?[/FONT]

NO - in answer to that question - ie I dont think you should delete any recipes not directly relevant to this project. I think all recipes should stay put there - but just indicate whether they are or arent part of this project or now (ie put a little sub-heading under the title to say whether they are).

    brill, thanks.

I'm back BTW, will need to go and cook the turnovers in a while. DP is happily watching the Grand Prix practice at the mo, an industry renowned for it's eco friendly frugalness - ha ha, NOT

I have a couple of recipes that may be of interest. Been costing things I do often to see if any would fit in to the pence allowed and found a couple

One is Nut Balls in Tomato Sauce from Rose Elliot's Vegetarian Cookery
    serves 4
    1 onion 4p
100g chopped nuts 51p or 13.5p using rinsed roasted and salted peanuts
    50g breadcrumbs 7p
    50g cheddar 25p
    2 tsps tom puree 2p
    1 egg yolk (I use a whole one) 10p
    1/2 tsp dried thyme
    tin of toms 31p

fry the onion. Cool and mix in all the other ingredients except the tin of toms. Form into 8 balls. Place in ovenproof dish
Mix s+p, some basil and a splash of oil into the tin of toms and pour over the nut balls, you need to come at least halfway up the nut balls, so you may need to add some water too

    bake at 180C/Gas 4 for 25-30 mins
these don't freeze. My DD tried once and they turned to mush, still tasty, but just one big mushy dish

served with 100g rice each and using the 51p nuts, costs a total of £1.58, or 39.5p each

might be of interest for the veggie plan, or for anyone, like me, constructing their own plan

vegan brownies to follow, need to cost them first

I've got that recipe book - but seem to have overlooked this particular recipe:(.

Must give it a go personally - and I think it would be a good one to add into the Plan if possible:)

I have also been thinking the famous Homity Pie is an obvious one (to me anyway:)) to add in if possible. I'll just go off and google for a recipe for it - seem to recall the Cranks website has this as one of their recipes.
