does she have golden syrup? 2-3 tblsp of that would substitute or even suggesting a value tin of fruit (drain syrup off) spread over the bottom or I have used bruised/past their best fresh fruit on the bottom instead. If these instructions are being written, then maybe a few "alternatives" could be mentioned?

Surely golden syrup can be recreated with sugar and water and heat ?
    Can't it ??

Hmmmmm... I have some Tesco's value stuff in my cupboard, and the ingredients state
    "Ingredients: Golden Syrup" :rotfl::rotfl:
The phrase, "No S**T Sherlock" springs to mind there :o... sorry, thats a bit cheeky to the Tesco ingredient writer :o:p
I also have some Tate and Lyle maple syrup flavoured golden syrup in my cupboard... and that too states the same, including flavourings and caramel *rolleyes*

I think golden type syrup can be recreated at home with sugar and water and heat
I think I will have to try this tomorrow, just to see if it works ....
Have tested the microwave sponge pud. Had it with apple curd in the bottom made with some lemon zest and muscovado, yum. Too full now! It took 6 mins in my 1000w microwave. If you cook it for 1 min at a time and check after each minute, once the top is not runny any more and just a little sticky, it's done

I was going to suggest the apple curd to go in there, but you beat me to it :p
The lemon zest sounds like a good idea, or even orange zest if thats whats on the shopping list.

    dear all,

please please can everyone do me a favour when you next have a cuppa?

Make tea as normal, then measure your milk as you pop it in until it looks your normal colour. 1 tbspn=15ml, 1 dessertspn=10ml, 1 teaspn= 5ml.

Then please post how much you and DH have and whether it's skimmed, semi, or full fat?

Thanks soooooo much and sorry to be bossy :)

I do the tea thing...so will check this out for you when I get up :)

Or, I could knock up a cheeky survey for you if you wish, for all to answer ?? ;):A

Ok... bed time for me now...
    Nitey nite :D

Hi there chaps :) thanks for all the advice about the tea, very helpful, keep those opinions flowing please :)

Erm, sorry I'm being dumb again, what's the problem with magnesium?

I think there's enough in Bob and Shirley's diet?

    xxx

We're talking about magnesium - because nutritionists keep stating that if one takes calcium, then magnesium must be taken as well to counterbalance - as per my post mentioning this yesterday evening. Hence me wondering whether there is enough magnesium in the diet - to counterbalance the added calcium in that Ready Brek.

Yep, :D I did see that but I thought I'd explained more clearly here below:

nope, not adding any extra calcium, just meeting their normal RDA of calcium, no need to balance it out, we're just making sure they're getting the right amounts of everything.

    Hope that helps.

I really do want them to be healthy C :)

Please do say if that doesn't answer the magnesium problem, I genuinely want to do the right thing for this family :)

hey all, just a quickie as well to say that Bob and shirl aren't having the microwave sponge because the marmalade, apple curds and so on are very much needed for breakfasts. I'm sorry about that.

But please everyone not doing Bob and Shirl month, do enjoy as much steamed pudding as you like :)

Sorry I will get menus out soon...

I'm sure something like golden syrup can be recreated, but maple syrup is a plant derivative (boiled maple bark). Apparently
Artificial maple syrup is made with water and an extremely large amount of dissolved sugar. The solution is heated so more sugar can be put in than normally possible. The solution becomes super-saturated
