    Hi Weezl,

I am been meaning to ask you for about a week, since you posted comment on my blog. When you have time, can you please list the 18p way of getting your 5 a day? I knew you would know the answer, but didn't realise it was this low!

    Ta love

The absolute lowest, but all of the same veg would be dried peas at 11 pence for all your 5 portions,:rotfl: but to get your colours:

    raisins 20g 1.3p
    marrowfats 20g 2.24p
    carrot 80g 5.6p
tomatoes pureed double conc. 30g 5.28p
    onion 80g 3.04p

    17.46p :money:

hope that helps :) glad you like the brazil nut idea :)

    Hello everyone,

I have had a crazy few days. Cardiff was lovely and the bay and ballet beautiful. However from there I had to get a train at 8 straight to London for a seminar at Sotherby's and now I'm home Im so tired I could cry.

Having a glass of wine then probably bed soon.

Cerdiwen-You are a real deep thinker and whilst I dont agree with some of your opinions (think they may be too ''out there'' for me) you really make me consdier society as whole in this project.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that I'm so pleased to be part of a project that involves so many clever, thoughtful people. And I hope that no one loses sight of the fact this has been going little over a month-Rome wasn't built in a day and Britain will not be cheaply, healthily and yummily fed in a month!

    Love artybearxxx

:D "deep" moi? - Yep..I guess I do "deep":(- and yep...I know some people think I'm a bit "out there"....:(

Now - back to a practical leetle point I have been pondering today - I have come across (not for the first time.....or even the second...or third....) the point being made that if one is deliberately putting in a bit of added calcium into a dietplan that it is necessary to add in magnesium as well at the same time.

The comment I read today is "A lot of women take calcium supplements without balancing them with magnesium to help absorption. Without this, your body can't use the calcium and clumps it around the joints, causing pain" (think arthritis.....:(). That little thought was also there - if I remember aright - in the first post about the possibility of using eggshells to make up the calcium content in a Subsistence Diet.

Errr......question time = have we got a counterbalance programmed into this to allow for having some extra magnesium to counterbalance that added calcium from that Readybrek (with its "supplementation" with calcium)????? I am no nutritionist - but this is very far from the first time that I have read about the need to "balance" these two things out...
  • Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the ready brek hobnobs were not good!

I used oil in place of the margarine and ended up having to use a like for like amount. I used 80% first, but the mixture was too dry. I think the problem may be that ounce for ounce, the volume of the hot oat cereal is much greater than the volume of bog standard oats. I guess you could either reduce the amount of oats, or possibly reduce or omit the self raising flour. I ended up adding an additional 3 or so tbsps of water just to get a usable dough.

Would I make them again? Not a chance, I'm afraid lovely Weezl. They are dry and saw-dusty and not a patch on the original.

nope, not adding any extra calcium, just meeting their normal RDA of calcium, no need to balance it out, we're just making sure they're getting the right amounts of everything.

    Hope that helps.

I really do want them to be healthy C :)

    gisi I'm awful sorry :(

The only thing I can recommend is that you bash the batch up and combine it into a sweet crumble topping for some nice fruit, and then you won't be cursing me too much for food wastage :( Thank you so much for being prepared to take a risk and try :):A

    OOH:D

I theenk I've found that majorly influential book in my thinking about food online for free....:T - ie "Let's Eat Right to Keep Fit" by Adelle Davis:

    http://www.archive.org/details/letseatrighttoke00davirich

    :D:D:D

    - seems to be the way to go to look on the left side of the webpage and click on "read online":D...fingers crossed...(nope - amend that - to looking at the PDF file).

Cor...that brings back memories that does.....rewinds back 30 or so years ago....
  • That's what I was planning, Weezl. It will be good with apple and ice cream. I enjoyed the fun of the experiment, anyhow!

    good oh!

Lesley I have 2 more probs, sorry about this,:o I highlighted them both in red if you could have a little lookie :)

the column had corrupted formatting, cosmetic. The other one was referencing the wrong cell, came out of my clumsiness with Googledocs. Both done now. Don't worry about changes, I change them all the time. Sorry there were errors in there

Have tested the microwave sponge pud. Had it with apple curd in the bottom made with some lemon zest and muscovado, yum. Too full now! It took 6 mins in my 1000w microwave. If you cook it for 1 min at a time and check after each minute, once the top is not runny any more and just a little sticky, it's done

Brazil nuts and pumpkins seeds are rich sources of magnesium which we will me making a spread with. Also in other foods on the plan like peas, chickpeas and beans. So we shouldn't have to worry, not that you was.
