howlin did you mean my jammy sponge?

I didn't think shirley would be able to make it cos she has no jam...

I can rethink that tho if people would like :)

does she have golden syrup? 2-3 tblsp of that would substitute or even suggesting a value tin of fruit (drain syrup off) spread over the bottom or I have used bruised/past their best fresh fruit on the bottom instead. If these instructions are being written, then maybe a few "alternatives" could be mentioned?

yay! I missed this earlier, thanks Gisi :) (I posted on the PT:o)

frankie and Gisi, shall we all try white sugar, and re oil, some vegan sites suggest using 80% of the weight of oil that the butter/marg would have been....

    How does that sound?

    Could be gross!

ps thank you Auntie Ceridwen, I shall go to bed shortly and be a good girl :)

We are on it, although may need to pop out for more oil!

sadly no syrup or tinned fruit :(

the 3 cakey type things for month 1 are carrot cake
some kind of garibaldi biscuit and the oaty raisin cereal bars.

But I'm sure month 2 (if we ever get that far!) can include other goodies... :)

weezl, she can have marmalade :D

marmalade report: used 3 oranges and started off with 65g of sugar. Wound up adding 15g more sugar in the middle somewhere, then after tasting at the end, another prolly 10g (didn't weigh that one, sorry). So 90g in total. It looks nothing like I expected, not having made marmalade before and only having experience with shop-bought, but DH pronounced it "restaurant-quality" and "the best marmalade [he's] ever had!"

I used my stick blender to puree it a wee bit, but not enough that the skins were totally obliterated. No idea if I was supposed to do that, but it seemed too...chunky?...after all the cooking so this helped. A recipe I had found had said cook 20 minutes, I think all in all I did about an hour, adding water when it got dry.

initial thoughts, I love it :T
    what a labour of love.

Also, I'm aware shirley's main/only cake baking is the carrot cake, isthere anything particular to this kind of baking that people think shirl ought to know?

Weezl, no I don't think you need to add a sponge pudding leave the meal planner alone woman. I'm trying to teach Shirley to fish! plus someone asked to include pleating foil in the tips and I thought it might as well come with a recipe! :)

Just about to test your Eggless Apple Cake but it does not say how long to cook for or on what temperature. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Many thanks,

I'd do it at 180 C, 160 fan. Keep an eye on it, and when it starts getting golden/brown, poke a skewer in and pull out - if it's still wet and sticky, leave it 5 min more.

eeek, I picked a bad time for an afternoon nap! Are you ok pinkhayley?

I'd say gas 4-5 and test after 25 mins, but mine took 30-35 (my oven is old and a bit rubbish tho!)
