hi all is there anyone on this forum whose children got under 100 ? people seem to be worried about scores of 118 etc when really they should not be!! The murky waters of scores below 100 ie 97 is what im having a breakdown about! anyone else out there or just me?

Apologies Edith 999 if me worrying about other matters seems to have annoyed you, but we are all parents at the end of the day and have the best interests of our own at heart.

OMG WHAT??????? I don't know anything about this, and our 2nd choice is carrickfergus!!! Our primary principle actually filled the form in. He got us to check it over and he had actually forgot to tick the box that said our child is the eldest in family. I'm pretty sure he didn't write candidate no. OMG I'm totally freaking out now!!!!
Kingston -Don't panic. As long as the AQE score is mentioned and test result is attached I am sure it really does not matter. I can not see any Grammar school refusing a child a place just because candidate number was not mentioned in section C (it will be on the test result paper anyway!!).
I guess there will be variations in the way primary heads have completed transfer forms and as long as the key information is there and AQE result paper, common sense will/should prevail.......
  • Has anyone thought of getting a remark? (completed forms to be in by Tues) Has anyone received the remark form and is there any additional information on it? My child is sitting on the boundary and that extra mark would make all the difference or would it? - I would never forgive myself if it when down.
  • Grahamjo, your kids scores are fantastic. Well done to them. I know you will be as worried as anyone else though.

I think people need to stop trying to work out if a score is a "high B1" or whatever in trying to work out whether their child will get into a particular school. In my view this isn't really relevant. What is relevant is if there are 140 places and 140 kids with a higher mark than your kid apply then you don't get in.

I never said anything about being annoyed! I was merely asking if anyone else on the forum had marks under 100 .... 118 and higher is a brill score and if i was u i would not be worried at all.. my twins got 104 and 97 therefore im sure u can c my angst! with regard to remarks i too was was going down that line thinking 1 more mark would put her in the next quintile i have the form it does not say anything else on it apart from score can go down spoke to my head yesterday he said in all his time as teacher/head he has never had a score increase even with the old 11plus in our school anyway therefore made the decision not to do it my daughters score of 97 is the mrky one im reasonably happy my son will be ok for grammar place so sorry if i sounded annoyed because its driving me insane!!!

Edith999 thanks for the info on the remarking! Wont go down that road now.

I'm sure your nerves wll be wrecked having to wait until May:( Did you put down the same schools for each child? What area do you live in? The only thing I suggest is wait a month or so and start ringing the chosen schools and see roughly what there cut off mark is - they may or may not be able to tell you this? Even at that there could be more surprises in store. I feel for you, I really do :(.

Our primary principal filled out our form. He took a photocopy of our son's result. I didn't fill out any of the form I let the princiipal do it . I just signed it. This is what all the other parents did. I hope it is ok.

Edith that is a nightmare scenario for you. Something similar happened under the 11 plus the year my older son transferred. Twins in his class and one got an A and the other a C1 but they were at an integrated PS so both boys were accepted to Lagan - 1 in the grammar stream and the other in the non-selective stream. Don't know if you've considered this or if it would be an option.

    Good luck.

Edith999 ref to my previous post - I feel for you because of the wait and NOT the mark. I know of alot of lower marks putting down grammars and a
secondary. You have every chance so keep your chin up!:hello:
  • You need to have taken the GL exam to be considered for the grammar stream at Lagan. :)
