    Hi All

Been watching this for a week or so and thought it was time I joined in - thanks to everyone who has posted, it is great to know we are not alone in this.. Like the rest of you, am confused about where we stand. But did want to make one point that I haven't seen so far. As important as the school our kids end up in is, we should all remember that - in terms of life opportunites - the thing that is at least as, and probably more, important as quality of school is quality of parents. Based on what I have read here, the kids of parents on this site are in a very good place. I have a friend who is headmaster of a primary school in Belfast and he says biggest challenge he faces in terms of making progress with pupils is getting parents to care - not a problem here. No doubt some of us (but lets hope very few!) face disapointment on 29 May, but all on this site will make the best of that, and continue to support our kids through whatever lies ahead. And we - and more importantly our kids - will get through this.

    Good luck everyone.

well said!! hope there isnt too much dissapoinment on 29th!!

Has anyone thought of getting a remark? (completed forms to be in by Tues) Has anyone received the remark form and is there any additional information on it? My child is sitting on the boundary and that extra mark would make all the difference or would it? - I would never forgive myself if it when down.

hi i thought about getting a remark. my daughter got 112 but then i read it can go down as well and thought it was too risky.
  • Hi I've just joined and must say I have found some of the comments quite helpful. I would however like to point out that I do find the comments regarding Campbell and Victoria rather offensive. They seem to be seen as second class grammar schools and are to be used as a last resort!! I have a child currently at Campbell and I can only speak extremely highly of the school and it's teachers. My second son has just done the AQE exam and all along has wanted Campbell as his first choice school as did my eldest son. So please give these schools a break!!

My child got the same mark and to be honest I feel it should be higher - based on practice tests and juggling 1st place with 3 other children in the class. Also after the tests my child was very confident especially on tests 1+2. The mark in not in the top lot of her class and other mothers have said that they thought my child's score would be alot higher. I have been told the it is within Grade A range in old 11+. If I have received just a grade I would have been alot happier as it cushions the mark but now I have so many unanswered questions whirling about in my head. However there have and will always be disappointments and I am pretty confident that we'll get a grammar school place.

I honestly don't think this is the case. The majority of parents posting on here seem to want co-ed schools, which are notoriously harder to get into. You have to admit that Campbell has a reputation for taking considerably lower grades, as does Victoria to a much lesser extent. While both of them are excellent schools I think many parents see them as a lower choice purely from the single-sex aspect. Victoria is my 2nd choice but if my daughter had preferred an all girls school I would have no hesitation in putting it 1st. The fact that Campbell is fee paying also puts people off. Mind you, Methody (my first choice) is still around £500 a year, but that doesn't get mentioned much!

From speaking to mums of girls, it is Hunter House that is the girls' equivalent of Campbell. One mum has said if her daughter doesn't get into her first three choices then "it'll be Hunter House because at least it's still a grammar".
  • :)hi everyone, victoria, is our choice, and I thought it was about 340 a year, does any one else know ;)

    Just checked their prospectus:
Capital contribution is £140 and Supplementary contribution is £292 per annum. Total of £432.

However is you have more than one daughter the supplementary contribution is reduced to £152 for each of them.
