  • Yes its an option. In my mind there are more options for a girl. As well as the co-eds there are Bloomfield, Strathearn, Hunter and Victoria whereas the boys have Campbell and RBAI as their options. I think my next child (7 in April) may be better suited to an all girls school. Ideally I would have liked the 3 kids in one school but that probably isn't realistic.

Will you have 3 boys in Campbell at one time?

I also have a girl who just had her seventh birthday last week. I also think she would be well suited to an all girls school, unfortunately there isn't any within commutable distance to us that I know of. Can you tell me what the all girls schools are so I can have a look online?:)
  • Thanks lovelylucy. We were really impressed with the school. The happy, confident boys and the lovely staff are a credit to it. When we went back the 2nd day the head of music remembered my son's name which given the number of people who were there the night before was pretty amazing. We did very nearly go for it but decided that the school on the doorstep (Grosvenor) was the place to go for. Campbell is still on the list and may be where he goes in the end. His friend is there in year 8 at the minute and loves it. I just did have some reservations but I had reservations about a number of the grammars we looked at not just Campbell. In the end its a tough decision which schools to go for as the child will spend 5-7 years there. I have 2 girls to follow and from what I can see there isn't an option like Campbell for them.

Edith999, I will no longer be replying to you. Obviously you can't cope with a diverse range of opinions. Use of nasty icons etc isn't pleasant for anyone else to read so I for one will not be adding coal to your fire.

I am so sorry you felt i was being nasty i can tell you i was not. i was merely voicing my opinions about a school that my 2 boys love. please accept my apologies im just finding it all a bit too much at the moment which i know lots of other people are also but that doesnt give me the right to behave like a mad woman which i can tell you my husband says i have become! I find this forum so helpful and would not want to offend or annoy anyone .

Eminently sensible suggestion. The transfer forms are in, second guessing is impossible. There's no A-D correlation that can be done with the AQE scores and the 11+ because the method, ranking and no. of pupils that did them are so completely different (half the kids that used to do 11+ did the GL instead). Also acceptance criteria for schools are varying so widely this year.

We'll know the answer in May and any conjecture and rumour between then will probably cloud the issue and drive us scatty, so ignore it and best of luck.

Couple of final points - the AQE don't need to issue a statement of the number of children in the quintiles - it's a fifth of those who took the exam in each, by definition a quintile is a fifth (approx 7000 did it, so 1400 in each quintile).

Sensible comments. Still think percentiles would help. Adjustment data as in earlier posts by me needs to be clarified. I suspect this test maynot have been piloted.
If parents are getting a REMARK make show that the highest age adjusted score has been taken from the 3 papers and that they haven't just age adjusted the 2 highest raw score papers. I'm almost sure that this is unnecessary but earlier Sniffy postings raise a little concern.
Good luck to all. I hope to see percentiles, raw scores and some confirmation that papers have been piloted to allow age adjustment appearing on the AQE website.
    Big thanks for your posting.

KINGSTON 2730 What geographic areas are you interested in, in relation to girls schools? If you give me an idea, I'll try and send you website details.

If you look at the Cambell intake grades over the last few years and not just last year it shows a slightly different story. Last year they did take 40 D grades, but the year before they took only 2. The three years before last year showed that A grades were increasing year on year as the D grades were decreasing. I think the intake last year was somewhat different from other years. Even Grovenor took 16 B1 grades and 2 B2s !!

It's a possibility but my youngest is only in P5 and already he is talking about "big" school, although he keeps mentioning Methody so I will have to wait and see when the time comes. Until then I'm the one wearing second hand clothes and working my fingers to the bone!!!!! lol
  • I think its fair to say that the economic climate has probably affected Campbell's intake in the last couple of years. If your job is uncertain the last thing you'd want to be doing is signing up to a Direct Debit of £200 per month on school fees if your child is able to secure a place elsewhere.

Lovelylucy, its a great thing that you are doing for them though and hopefully they will look back in years to come and see be grateful and recognise the sacrifice that was made.
  • my daughter got 98 anyone got any idea if this will be enough to get her in to B R A
  • I would definitely put B R A down, bigbiff, none of us knows what the schools will actually accept and you would be gutted if you didn't try and then heard other kids got in with less marks. All we can do now is cross everything and wait.

What about Hunterhouse I have 2 nieces who attended both as boarders initially as their parents were working abroad. They both did exceptionally well and loved it there!!!

I have 'insider knowledge' of that school and I think it is great - their pastoral system is well set up so that all girls are included as much as possible and behaviour is good. Academically they do better with their intake than cognitive testing would suggest. The school is very well resourced and well run.
