Its so nice to hear someone speaking positively about Hunter House, I have been reading the threads and have decided to put a comment in. My daughter received a score of 97, at the time we we totally devastated as with the rest of the county we did not understand what that meant. I contacted Mr Gibson at Hunter House and he advised me that it would roughly equate to a B2 and without guarantees he would be hopeful she would get in. Living in Lisburn our other 2 grammars are Wallace and Friends, my daughter hated these schools as they were push, push, push! Whilst my daughter is bright and I know she will do well I want her to have the best experience possible from the next 5 to 7 years. Our visits to Hunter House convinced us that this would be the right school for her, she did the test there and they were excellent. It is horrible to read people saying if my daughter doesnt get in such and such then Hunter House will do when I am sure there are a lot of people like me are hoping and praying for Hunter House.
I think we all need to take a step back, this situation is where none of us wanted to be. It is completely out of our control.0 -
Welcome Lisburn Mum 2. You are very right. Each child is different and what is suitable for one isn't necessarily suitable for another. I feel my son will do best in a push push environment like Grosvenor whereas my daughter at this stage I feel would be happier in the likes of a smaller all girls school. Obviously this could change as she gets older.
I know little about Hunter House but my neighbour got an A (this was about 7-8 years ago) and chose to forego the East Belfast schools - Grosvenor, Strathearn, Bloomfield, Wellington etc and went to Hunter House. So there must be something about it that attracted her. She has since moved house so I'm not sure how she got on but the last I heard she was awaiting her A Level results and hoping to become a Vet.0 -
my daughter got 98 anyone got any idea if this will be enough to get her in to B R A
hi, my daughter got 112 and BRA is her first choice. im really joping she gets in but i dont know if her score is good enough. principle at her school said he thought sure she would have no problems at all. so that was encouraging0 -
We didnt put down secondary school choice as headmaster said 99.9% son would get into BRA with score of 112. Local secondary Ballyclare only taking 1st choice pupils. Headmaster there totally opposed to academic selection. It is always oversubscribed.
my daughters first choice is also BRA and she got 112 in the test. her principle was very encouraging as well and said with her score she should have no problem0 -
:mad:It's all just a waiting game:mad:.......without the FUN of a game:(0

spoke to Aqe today and they will be releasing stats on the tests/scores etc....It will be on their website so keep checking everyone!0

That sounds great Kingston, did they say what sort of info. they would be releasing. I for one would love to find out which areas had the best results and how many kids got each score.0
-
Thanks for that info. I can resume checking their website 10 times per day like I have done since last February. :rotfl: I imagine that they will publish very sparse statistics.
Hopefully in a few months time we will all come back here and be able to laugh at how worried and paranoid we were.0 -

Sorry didn't ask what specific info that would be released as I had been quizzing him for some time on my son's score. Maybe someone could ring them tomoro and ask them? They are very obliging, I just don't want to ring them yet again or I'll be close to being on a first name basis with them :rotfl: They seemed to be pretty aware that parents are not happy with the grading system...maybe they've been reading our thread. It wouldn't surprise me :rotfl:0 -

I hope we will all come on here in May and everyone will have gotten a place at a school that they can live with. We were told by a couple of different grammar school heads that the majority of children do get their first choice but not counting my chickens here. I am so proud of my son for the mark he got, in fact I've never been so proud of him. I remember before the first test. The night before my son hadn't slept the whole night and kept coming into our bedroom to say he still hadn't slept and didn't know how he was going to do the test. I remember the hour that he sat the test. I literally sat in floods of tears thinking about him in that room, stressed and scared having not slept all night!!! All I could think about was how wrong it felt that he had to be under such pressure. Thankfully, he found the first test quite easy and was able to sleep the night before both the other tests!! I'll just be glad when its all over...that is until 2013 when it will be my daughter's turn! Dear God help us all!!!0
