  • If you don't mind me asking what did they say about your son's score? I ask as his score is similar to my son's.
  • He told me it was a very good score and equivalent to a strong B1. He was quite knowledgable on what grades the different grammar schools take and was able to accurately tell me for example that my second and fourth choice schools have taken B2s in previous years. He said that the percentage of As varies every year with last year being the top 42% writing the tests and in 2008 it was the top 38%. He pointed out that this year there were less people taking the test. I also spoke to first choice grammar school again (I'm sure I'm torturing them) and spoke to the deputy principle and he told me that they had gotten together with several other local grammar schools to discuss how scores might relate to the old grades. He assured me that my son's score of 102 was 'almost an A'....his words exactly!!!! He told me he felt my son had a very good chance of getting into the school based on his score.
  • I have just emailed the AQE to see when they plan to release further info and what information we might expect to see? I have found them to be pretty prompt at returning emails/messages so hopefully should hear something tomorrow and I will post when I hear more. In the meantime, if anyone else felt like ringing them to find out what info they are going to release, that would also be great!!
  • :rotfl: They seemed to be pretty aware that parents are not happy with the grading system...maybe they've been reading our thread. It wouldn't surprise me :rotfl:

I'd be amazed if they weren't especially since news of it reached the press! ;)

I'm a little worried that you are becoming obsessed with this now.:rotfl::D;)

Now what would make you think that? :rotfl::D:p
  • can i just put this wee thought out there please? I have been reading all these posts with interest having promised myself that i wouldn't get involved again. A lot of people have complained that by giving a score not a grade some children are dealing with being the 'bottom' score amongst friends and in their class. Why then are some people so eager for aqe to publish results by area and overall? It can only cause more upset for those children and parents. It won't change anything else. Be careful what you wish for people.
  • Kingston 2730 - nearly everyone has disappeared!! You'll have to gee them up!!

I would prefer to see that table for age adjustments cause there are no adjustments made when practise tests are done.

This forum is gonna get busy if these stats are published. Bring back the grades why not have As, B1s, B2s, C1s, C2s + C3's - simple - then no one will get a D!! :)

I think I may be the one who mentioned they would like to know results by area and overall, the reason being so I can get an idea of how many grammar school places as opposed to children who wrote the test in our area. My reason for not liking the way the results were given is because of the confusion that it has caused. AQE confirmed in email to me today that they will be publishing the statistics 'in due course'. While I do feel sorry for the children who scored low, I am still very eager to know what the stats may tell us.
