Don't think they'll release any stats until the remarks are done, they are scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Monday, with results out to parents by 18th March!

I agree, I think they may wait. Though a 115 kids seeking a remark for the AQE it may not make that much of a difference to the overall picture. Our Principal, rarely had anyone seeking a remark in any of the schools he has taught in and when they did the grade never changed!

In relation to the numbers seeking a remark - this is on the BBC website this morning.

One hundred and fifteen pupils, about 1.6% of who sat the test set by the Association of Quality Education, applied to have their mark checked.

Two hundred and eighty, or 4%, of those who sat the Post-Primary Consortium's test asked for a re-mark.

Overall, 1,300 pupils applied for a re-mark of the last 11-plus in 2008.

Low numbers could be because this year the marks can go down as well as up. Less sat the tests this year. People generally happy with the results......who knows!
  • Hi! Everyone!

Thank you all so much for all your posts. I have found them very informative and amusing as well:rotfl:. I sincerely hope that all of our children receive a place in the schools that have been applied to.

We all saw the warning signs on the morning of the results when AQE sent us the same information with no adjustments made to them in their guidance sheets. They previously stated that these were for illustrative purposes and would change. Also they kept emphisizing that a score of less then 100 should not necessarily be seen as not being high enough for a grammar school place.

As I see it they are just covering themselves well for the backlash, but it worries me deeply WHY they didn't send us the correct statistics and an adjusted factual report sheet of how all the children really did, on the morning of the results. We all know that this wouldn't of been a difficult thing for them to do, it's alll on a system afterall. I just find it hard to believe that they didn't think parents would question this. What really is their reason for withholding this information?

    Extremely curious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Well said, Ms Optimistic, there is no way AQE couldn't have foreseen that parents would want some information regarding their children being 'guinea pigs' and surely it would have been less hassle for them to publish info at the time instead of dealing with millions of emails, phonecalls etc, so why didn't they??

Correct me if I'm wrong here:- re-mark AND re-check. Didn't know that you could get your score "re-checked" ? Hmm....

Well this is what the article said.....

  • Thank you Neveranymoney.

I do feel that AQEs' apparant lack of information is very worrying.

Yes we all knew we were entering our children into a system that was unregulated but I certainly didn't think I was going to feel like I've been misled by not receiving accurate calculations and details.

Let's face it AQE are as new as the tests are. From what I can gather, they were approached and accepted the offer of administering and assessing the tests. Whilst I can understand any new venture can have teething problems, I certainly wouldn't have thought that deliberately omitting accurate result information would be one of them!

I've emailed and phoned AQE(I'm up there with Kingston):rotfl:on quite a few occassions and have found them to be very vague and they always kept emphasizing for me to to select the schools that I had originally wanted for my child.

Surely we entered into an agreement with AQE. We paid a fee to cover the costs of the tests. We kept our part of the bargain, paid the fee and took our children to the designated assessment centres. Surely we deserve accuracy now and honesty!

JosieJoBelfast- I had looked at the article on BBC site and thought it was strange? In no way did I think you mis-quoted. Sorry if you thought that.

Is there anyone out there getting a re-mark/re-check or know of anyone that is?
  • A friend has asked for her daughter's GL test to be re-marked though from what I was told they were all computer marked multiple choice so she's not overly confident of any change.
