Does everyone not think that the AQE are more likely to have used a tried and tested method like NFER.

    .............................................................................................
AQE have set their own test (unlike GL)

The raw score each child got cannot be disputed.

To enable age standardisation usually adjustment charts are produced, specific to the exam- type, by the body that has set the test. This is used in the 'complex statistical method' to age adjust, reported by AQE.
AQE haven't explained how they have done this.

If it has been taken from template then this must be open to challenge as simply this approach wouldn't be valid for this test. It maybe that this test has been piloted elsewhere in a P7 cohort.

Each child young and old has correctly been compared with those in the same age group, if the details that enable this comparison are not valid, it maynot have distinguished within each group.

We need these additional details to ensure that this test has been fit for purpose.

Uh Duh!! I have been so stupid :o. Thanks AKA3 for pointing me in the right direction. The AQE say they didnt use standardised scores like NFER and thats what has been confusing me. But look at the NFER Standardised score/percentile rank below and I now know where they got the 113 (80%) and 87 (20%) so whilst I thought my child's score was out of 145 - in fact it was just putting her in a percentile rank (so much % were above/below her). And now I know what the scores in school mean too . So using this and based on the fact that 38% (percentile ranking 62) of children who sat the old 11+ got an A (quoted from AQE) then the equivalent grades with AQE are 105+ = A, 102+ = B1, 99+ = B2, 96+ = C1 and so on. However, they havent factored in the children who did both tests and that there were lower numbers sitting so using the GL scores: 102+ = A, 98+ = B1, 95+ = B2, 91+ = C1 or am I totally losing the plot!!:)

www the following (it wouldnt let me link) or google 'standardised scores and percentiles'

    nfer.ac.uk/nfer/research/assessment/eleven-plus/standardised-scores.cfm

I told you it was a rank ages ago. Luckily your child seems smarter than you lol
  • AKA3, I thought the AQE got CEA to set their test? Is that not the same body that always set the 11plus ? Sorry for so many questions but this is my first child through this and I have a P5 coming hot on her heels and if the teaching unions have their way today in their meeting he will get no preparation from his teacher!! What a mess that will be!!
  • CCEA had absolutley nothing to do with the AQE test. More is the pity really. CCEA are professionals and would never have left us in the mess we are today.

Personally I reckon that it will go back to CCEA. We will then be left with the historic children who did the test the year when grades weren't issued and no-one will ever know what we are talking about.

It is unfortunate that the test was called CEA (Common Entrance Assessment) as this has led to a bit of confusion.

Well Bangor mum may not be the mathematical genius that you seem to think you are, but at least she has social skills lol!!!

:AAh, thanks for sorting me out, it has been so long since I read any of the stuff the AQE sent that I had got it muddled, but now that you have put in the extra C I can see the difference. I hope they do put the CCEA test back in place, at least then the schools will be under an obligation to prepare the kids because the way things are going at present it looks like it's going to be down to parents and tutors. Oh I can see the teachers/tutors rubbing their hands already.:(
