AQE Exam Results

Its Council for the Curriculum Examinations and Assessment. They were responsible for the 11 plus and are currently still responsible for a large proportion of GCSE and A Level qualifications (plus others) within Northern Ireland. I can see why people have got confused though as the have their logo as CEA. The day AQE first referred to the test as the CEA I knew there was going to be confusion.
I don't think CCEA would be happy for people to think that AQE have anything to do with them.
I have to be honest and say that if CCEA had administered the tests I for one would not be worried about the range of issues I am.
Kingston, I never got around to making that call this week unfortunately as work etc was hectic. I will try on Monday hopefully.0 -

Thanks for that- I remember now!
Oh Dear?? - That's given me more to think about.....:think:0 -
I am reasonably content that AQE have set this test.
However, I remain concerned that the final percentile rank for our children has been determined by an age adjustment procedure that maybe invalid.
This afterall is determining who is admitted to the grammar school places.
I think this is the single area in this unregulated system that could be disputed if one finds the statistical methods used are invalid.0 -

AKA3 - The age adjustment procedure maybe invalid - why do you think this? Do you have solid knowledge that the younger children did alot better in these tests and the age adjustment was unfair?0 -
Here's another thought :-
3 tests, best 2 test marks taken - surely this is open to error??
Is there any other eductional body that uses this type of system?0 -
I do not fully understand but the principle applied by AQE is kurtosis, skewness. They gave us the following assurance "A perfect match between percentile ranks and age-standardised scores shouldn’t be expected because our software has to allow for a child’s changing age across the test period, "
This may confuse even more , but at least it indicates their stance. Hope this helps and maybe someone with a more statistical mind can explain?0 -

I dont understand your thoughts i feel that the fact the result was a best 2 out of 3 was one of the only advantages this system had.
Thoughts anyone?0 -
I agree Portrushdad, at least it allowed for an off day. It was similar to the supplement paper your child could sit if they had a problem with the 11 plus test. All this scare mongering is starting to get a bit out of hand. We all knew this test was inregulated and now we will have to live with the outcome. At least our children are still getting the chance to compete for a grammar school place. If Ms Ruane has her way they will end up at their nearest comprehensive and have to be content with that.0
