  • It has been such a help - I think everyone I know has become fed-up with me rambling on about it so reading about other parents experiences has been so useful. Thankfully my son has made his choices and has forgotten about it for now - I'm the one doing the stressing for him. I dont know if i can last until May!!!!!
  • I was disappointed that no-one in work mentioned it today so I waited until tea break and gave them half an hours worth. :rotfl::rotfl:

I'm dropping into the school tomorrow to fill in the form.
  • I think the sympathetic faces have ended now and my colleagues are bored with the whole thing. Until they have to go through it themselves they really have no idea.

I have to complete the form this week but we know what choices we have made. I think that once I have signed the form and its away, i can try and settle a bit
  • ex-spendy .. i do agree that i am lucky that we have a good secondery school and i also know that there are some out there that are just getting by but at the end of it all the child is whats matters and if they end up at a secondery they could make it to a grammer with a little bit of hard work and support in the second or third year ... i also heard a rumour that some grammer schools don't have a cut off point ( i know this will only add to the confusion) and having seen what my friends have been going through and the posts on here i'm glad big son sort of knows what he wants to do and i have explained the hard work he has in front of him for the next 7 to 10 years
 while i knit i think

;):jGreat to read all the helpful information ,i have filled my childs transfer form in already and live in hope to get their choice. Did anyone else put Methodiist College down for a score of 99 or less. I had rang a grammar school and they said this was a great score, which sort of cheered us up a bit. Roll on May.
  • Hi Everyone
Just joined today, Im so glad Im not the only one pulling my hair out!!
My son has a score of 106 although Im really proud of him his headmaster still cant guarantee a grammar place, my goodness what does it take!!! Think I might be grey by the end of May. :(
  • This has just occurred to me, and I may be wrong. But if a significant number of tests were remarked and their results amended, wouldn't it mean that EVERYONE'S scores should be changed, since the average had moved? (I don't imagine for a minute that this would happen, just theorising)

September is a remarkably low birthrate year. In West Belfast (indeed much of Belfast) virtually any child who attempted the tests will get into a grammar school. The same is true if you look at the size of P7 classrooms throughout the country.

As for the points about the children / quality of secondary schools etc. a major part of the problem is that, in much of the country, all but the weakest children now go to grammar schools due to the low birthrate etc. Funding is based on pupil numbers so it's a vicious circle.

One thing to bear in mind though. We take in at least half a dozen kids every year who went on through to grammar school and then couldn't cope.

I'm in the same boat (but I think my hair has gone grey just in the past week!!):rotfl:. My son got 106 as well but we are confident that he should get a grammar school - maybe not his first choice though. If anyone has any info on the number of children applying to Grosvenor as first choice and the scores they got it would be much appreciated!
