Picked Carrickfergus Grammar 1st Choice then Belfast High 2nd and Larne Grammar 3rd. Tough choice between Carrick Grammar & Belfast High. Lots of good feedback from Parents of year 8 pupils (1st year in my day!!)about Carrick Grammar, so that swayed it for us. My daughter got 112 so pretty hopeful -But not counting chickens just yet!!!
Have you chosen 1st choice yet? - Thought Carrick Grammar and Belfast High open nights very good, Larne Grammar not so good!!. But all good schools and some very good secondary schools in East Antrim also.:)0 -

I would hope with scores of 106 we should have a chance at one of them. But as you say its a lottery. I think most of the kids from my sons school will be applying to Regent but I will try to find out more tomorrow[/QUOTE
Don't want to burst any bubbles, but I spoke with an obnoxious person at Regent (she didn't bother tell me who she was!) who advised that they only expect to take Q1 & 2.
Great!!!!! Just what I wanted to hear. As beccasmum said how on earth would they know at this stage. No one knows the number of applicants and what the range of scores that these applicants have!!!!0 -

sorry don't know what happened there with last post. To be honest, carrick grammar is soooo handy for us but my son really liked Belfast High. He only got 102 so hes right on the borderline looking at what they've accepted in the past. ALthough saying that all but one of the high marks in his year have put carrick grammar as first choice so I'm hoping this may make Belfast high easier to get into this year. Do you know how many in your child's school who have put Belfast high down first? There does seem to be a big interest this year in carrick grammar but you really DO NOT need to worry at all with 112!!!!0 -

Co Down Mum, don't give up hope. It is very much uncharted territory this year. The principle of a large grammar school assured me that my son's mark of 102 is almost an A according to their calculations. I'm still taking that with a pinch of salt but it has made me hopeful.0 -
is it possible that fewer people will apply to certain grammer schools thinking they don't stand a chance when actually their childs score was better than they thought. It would be such a shame if they missed out.
it is just so very confusing for everyone.

Thanks for that. I know 112 is good and we knew that to be the case the day of the results (thankfully), so had a really nice day to celebrate.
I think a few from our primary are applying for Belfat High 1st choice (not sure of scores). I think 102 has every chance of a place (not just saying that). I heard through grapevine that Belfast High are happy to talk to parents and may be able to put your mind more at rest- may be worth a call?
Don't think I know you!! But it is a small world- We are more Larne direction.0 -

We r Islandmagee and son goes to Whitehead Primary. I did speak to BHS and they were v positive and told me that they had done their own calculations and that my son's mark was a very high B1 bordering on an A. This is contrary to what AQE and other principles have said though so I really don't know. Its going to be a nail biting few months.0
