Thanks for the welcome:j i think your child has a very good chance! 102 is a very good score

Thankyou I am quietly confident that he will get into one of his choices but am not sure it will be his first choice. If he doesn't it will be a close one though. Saying that I am very thankful that he got the score he did. Unlike most of you, we really didn't expect him to do as well as he did. He has always been in the 'high ability' group at school and performed well on the INCAS and NFER tests but had some lowish scores on the practice tests for AQE. He is very strong in English but not so good on the maths and the scrapping of the science this year was really to his detriment. In actual fact I was praying he would get at least 95 as I knew this would get him into one of the grammars in our area so when we opened the envelope and saw 102 we were over the moon!! Its a moment I will never forget and still brings a tear to the eye. The principle and vice principle (his teacher) of our primary school had told my husband and I that he is very capable of grammar school and the reason his mark isn't higher is because of his concentration(or lack of) and disorganisation. They have told my husband and I that we will have to support him a lot next year to keep him organised as he constantly forgets his books, rugby boots etc...and has a habit of daydreaming in class. They did however assure us that it is not uncommon in boys and that he would be less mature than other boys in the class and obviously this will come in time. My husband was also a late bloomer so we know he will get there but may need help in getting himself to and from school in one piece next year lol. They have suggested setting out a chart for him to check off each morning so that he knows he has everything he needs for school. Its so funny as our little girl who is only 6 is more organised than him and she actually 'mummys' him a bit. You often see her packing his bag for him and doing up his zip on his coat and getting him to put on his hat. Its really sweet actually!! Anybody else have a boy like this?
  • Hi everyone another newbie today although I have been reading day and daily everyone in work sick of listening about AQE, no one else to talk to so thought I would make a post here. My son scored 113 and made choices of Grosvenor then Regent primary asked me for a third grammar just in case these two are over subscribed, put down Wellington although we didn't go to their open night. I think it is ridiculous that AQE have not published a breakdown by area and scores I think this would set alot of peoples minds at ease if they had some statistics in front of them. I had emailled AQE and they answered saying they would be published in due course, it will probably be mid summer by which time it won't really be beneficial.

Great!!!!! Just what I wanted to hear. As beccasmum said how on earth would they know at this stage. No one knows the number of applicants and what the range of scores that these applicants have!!!!

Co Down mum, your son scored 106 which is in 2nd quintile so I would have thought that if Goingnuts info is right its good news for you :T
  • It would be brilliant if AQE released more detailed info especially the breakdown of scores and the highest scoring areas. It is just a pity primary schools cannot be held accountable for some of the poor scores from very capable children due to lack of preparation. I know our primary Head was dead against these tests and had to be pushed into doing papers in the end by the board of governors. It was very frustrating when the school a few miles away was using 3 days a week to prepare plus had a summer school. The results have told a tale though as only 2 children managed to score over 100 in our school and all but 2 got over 100 in the other school with a high score of 124. How can this be fair?

That is really unfair!! Doesn't look too good on your school's principle that he had to be forced into allowing the prep for tests to occur. You would like to think that his main priority would be the welfare of the children and not his own political agenda. IMHO, if the tests were going ahead then the principles should have prepared the children regardless of their own personal viewpoint. I happen to know that our primary school is also against academic selection but they did prepare the kids just as they did any other year, although not as frequent as three times weekly and no summer school!
  • Thanks for your support, our school took the view that these were unregulated tests and they had been advised by their union not to prepare for fear of legal actions being taken, but I think his too little too late approach will come back to haunt him. Unfortunately I have another child in p5 who will be going through all this next year and I just wonder what will be in place by than?

Hi Mental mum - i'm a newbie too - its great to have somewhere to vent our frustration!! 113 is a fantastic score - i don't think you should have any problems with any of your choices - but it is worthwhile covering all bases. At the end of the day if your son doesn't get his first 2 choices my son certainly won't!! We have at the last minute decided to put wellington onto our list. We went to see it and it was great - really lovely school and was very welcoming. I know a few kids who are putting this as their first choice. I wouldn't have any problems sending my son to Wellington after Grosvenor/Regent
  • have really enjoyed reading all the posts on this thread and have been some support . think that whole thing has been a mess and scores around 100 are really good but because of quintiles they dont seem good! cant see how 20% quintiles could have been set before results but maybe im missing something
  • No I don't really understand that either. Maybe someone else will shed some light.
  • Is anyone hesitating between Bloomfield and Strathearn? If you have a daughter there , can you tell me what it is like or if you have put down one of these schools as your choice which one and why?
My daughter got 109 by the way.
