Hi there,
I have been reading and reading this forum for the last number of nights my query is ConfusedDAD is your score 95 in band 3 or 4 and did you ever get an answer to is it B2 or C1 and will it make a difference!! thanks guys for having this discussion it great to know I am not the only one that is going mental.
This is an earlier message which I posted - hope this is of some assistance:
Based on the %s scoring A, B1, etc in the GL Assessment tests, here are the grade boundaries for the AQE tests:
A - 103
B1 - 99
B2 - 95
C1 - 91
C2 - 85 (this one is only an estimation!)
I would heed these grade boundaries more than the daft ones suggested by AQE!!0 -
Josiejo, you are scaring me. :rotfl:
I think I'm going to apply to AQE under the Freedom of Information Act for information on how many kids were in each quintile etc and also for information on how they did age standardisation. Is there anything else you think I should be asking? I may as well put everyone's question in and then I can share it with you all? I would have thought maybe the Belfast Telegraph would have done this but no show so far.0 -

Yes I for one would like to know the breakdown of scores as if AQE are treating each score as an individual grade then as in previous years let us know how many children scored each one. I think parents have a right to know if there are 10 children in front of their child or 1000 as it would give us a better idea what to expect in May. I know it then depends on which area had the highest scores and how many apply to each school but it would calm people down if more info. was available.:(0 -

• This gives bands of 70-74, 75-79,80-84,85-89, 90-94,95-99,100-104, 105 -109,110-114,115-119,120-124,124-128
I have just applied Methody's criteria to my daughter's school and the scores that I know (there are about 7 I don't know) Principal confirmed lowest in our school of 93 (1 student) and 124 the highest (2 students). The majority falls in the 115-119 band that methody has set and the next band that has the next biggest proportion of students is the 105-109 band and the others have a couple in them.
I suppose it depends where the majority of applicants scores fall how many will be in there - could be 2 or 40. For my sake I hope it isn't the 115-119 band.......
JosieJo you are scaring me also. The marks in your school are really really high!! In our school the highest mark was 122. The second highest was 113, next 108, 107,105,102 and lower.0 -

Ex-spendaholic, it would be wonderful if you could get any further info out of them. Do you think they will cooperate? I would love to know how many children wrote the test in the East Antrim area compared to last year.0 -
Good advice from Wallace:
There is not a direct relationship between each quintile and the traditional Transfer grades. The advice of the School is that parents should use the Transfer form to put down their chosen schools in order of preference rather than trying to anticipate whether or not the score is sufficient to gain admission.0 -
I agree, its the only thing we can do really but I still feel its a disaster that we have no benchmark to go on. In previous years, it was easy enough by looking at past admissions stats to give a fairly accurate prediction as to whether your child would be admitted to a particular school. For me, the one thing that the AQE did wrong was to issue these scores instead of the traditional As, B1s etc... I find it hard to contemplate that they did not have the forsight to realise the effects this would have on pupils, parents and principles alike.0

I can understand why so many people are uptight about this new system but I have to disagree on the whole grades issue. In our area we ended up with too many A grades applying for limited spaces and it was decided on other critera which meant that children from the local area now have to go to the next town to get a grammar school place while children from that town chose to take the places here simply because they had a sibling in the school from a previous year. The school had no way of distinguishing between the A grades so everyone was the same which meant children who quite possibly scored much higher were rejected. At least this way children will get in on merit alone and will understand if they don't get a place. Better that than a local child being separated from all her friends simply because her brother went to another school.0

All of your results are great. My son goes to a school which always had good 11+ results, however AQE has been a different kettle of fish. Only 3 kids in his class scored over 100! Our primary principal has advised me that the local heads have acknowledged amongst themselves a significant level of under achievement in our area. Personally I hope they are right.0 -
hmmmm...unfortunately at a good majority of the schools they are not getting in on merit alone this year though. At all but one of the schools we have applied for the last 10% of places will be issued from a pool of students. The following criteria is applied 1.children whose sibling goes to the school 2. children whose sibling used to go to the school 3.children in receipt of free school meals 4.eldest child in family etc...so my child who scored 102 will quite possibly be in a pool with for example a boy in his class who scored 96. Since all scores in this pool will be considered equal it means that the boy who scored 96 will get in over my son because his brother goes to the school!! IMHO totally unfair!!0
