  • Thanks. Well done BRA for having a fairer system in place than any of the other schools we have applied to!
  • did anyone have a look at the stats for me what does anyone think??

    in 2009, 91 a's, 17 B1's, 26 B2's and 20 c1's so this is encouraging though 2008 116 a's, 30 b1's and only 6 b2's so DOH!! dont have a clue

Edith I think that 97 is a solid B2. Going on the 2009 results she should definately get in. Its strange there is such a gap between the 2008 and 2009 results. What are results like for 2007?
  • 2007 78 a's 24 b1's 35 b2's 16 c1's !!
  • I would say it looks good for your daughter based on those stats Edith. Fingerscrossed.
  • Honestly, based on those results I think she will get in. Larne grammar school regularly accept lower grades but in 2008 they didn't. The principle said this was a blip year (I think maybe it was a high birth rate year). Anyway, its best to look at the pattern and it certainly looks in your case that your daughter should get in. Also, don't forget there were much less who sat the test this year plus it is rumoured that perhaps the aqe banding stats MAY be a bit pessimistic (I was informed by one large grammar school that 102 was actually bordering on an A whereas aqe say its a low B1. Another grammar school principle told me over phone that the stats published by aqe are pessimistic in his opinion).
  • Thanks guys fingers crossed I will be back tomorrow for more insite!! mst go and finish my wine!!!! xx
  • 95 is in quintile band 4 and most people seem to think that it's probably equal to a low B2, but I cannot say 100%. The words our primary principal said were " it was a borderline score".[/QUOTE

We were told by one grammar school principle in his open night speech that a score of 95 was towards the bottom of a B2.
  • Kingston, I'll be here until the day and hour I get that letter. I just know that my colleagues are dreading seeing me tomorrow. They haven't seen me since Wednesday so have missed the whole debacle of me revisiting 3 schools. It will take me until lunchtime for them to hear about that.

Good to know Im not the only one then :rotfl::)

    Methody are banding:

"Applicants will first be placed in rank order based on their results in the CEA. Higher scores will
precede lower scores. Applicants will then be sub-divided into bands of 5 marks."

The Methody bands are using 100 as the starting point, Applicants will be sub-divided into bands of 5 marks:
    • This gives bands of 70-74, 75-79,80-84,85-89, 90-94,95-99,100-104, 105 -109,110-114,115-119,120-124,124-128

I have just applied Methody's criteria to my daughter's school and the scores that I know (there are about 7 I don't know) Principal confirmed lowest in our school of 93 (1 student) and 124 the highest (2 students). The majority falls in the 115-119 band that methody has set and the next band that has the next biggest proportion of students is the 105-109 band and the others have a couple in them.

I suppose it depends where the majority of applicants scores fall how many will be in there - could be 2 or 40. For my sake I hope it isn't the 115-119 band.......
