  • Phew!! Now can we please get back to the more important issues of trying to guess if 95 is a B2 or C1 and what percentage of children who were in quintile 3 will get into their first choice schools. :D:p

95 is in quintile band 4 and most people seem to think that it's probably equal to a low B2, but I cannot say 100%. The words our primary principal said were " it was a borderline score".
  • Campbell are doing that banding/pooling thing. Methody aren't - they are strictly rank order. :)
  • Can I ask Y there is a low B2 and high B2, low B1 high B1, surely its just a B2! B1! 97 was my daughters score is it enough for Grammar school still wrangling my brain help! 150 intake purely on results is the school on her 1st choice list in north down they do take B2's bt suppose depends on how many!!!
  • Edith it is down to that table that was published which said Quintile 1 was an A then then said Quintile 2 was also an A and a Top B1. Followed by Quintile 3 being a B1 - B2. Its all clear as mud. My child is 104 Q3 and depending on who you talk to it ranges from an A, B1 or B2. :rotfl:
  • a B2 or B1 was always what it was under the old 11 plus...however this year there are scores and that is what makes the difference. So within a quintile or a band there is a range of scores therefore a high and low can develop if you try and equate to a grade - though where the equivalences between this year's scores and the old grades fall no-one knows.

applying strict rank order allow schools to rigorously apply their claim to maintain an academic ethos. That is fair.

applying rank order to a proportion of places and 'other' criteria to the remaining places can allow them to apply a certain 'social' selection ie; keep families together, community representation within the school, or as others have said protect places for the prep students.

on a personal note - we have opted for methody as option one, the majority of her class have gone for this and she wants to be with her friends. still undecided on order of other schools
  • i have twins boy got 104 and girl got 97 its my worst nitemare 1 gets in a 1 doesnt !!
  • JosieJo, we are going with it as option 2. I have yet to find another child in our school who is putting it as first or second preference though so if he gets in there he will be Normannomates for a while. He knows this though and I'm kind of impressed that he hasn't followed the crowd to Wellington or Inst.
  • Edith that really is a nightmare. I hope they both get the same school as it is going to be really hard trying to explain why one did and the other didn't not to mention the logistical nightmare of them getting to and from different schools.
  • they both want diff schools anyway! the only 2 grammars in bangor !
