AQE Exam Results

No-one is putting pressure on the kids. I for one want what is best for my child (and I believe other posters do too) and put quite simply the best for my child is not in one of the East Belfast secondary schools. Have you seen them recently?
I note that they mustn't have been good enough for your family either when your 2 brothers went to Campbell (fees currently £2098 per annum) and you went to Lagan (very difficult to get into and I believe they should relinquish their "integrated" status when they chose to accept the GL test only and not AQE. How is that integrated? Its like saying we only want catholics (who were the main takers of GL) and not protestants (who were the main takers of AQE).
My child is certainly under no pressure, its me that feels like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders and that has been placed there by a shambolic system of selection. Before you start on, yes it was my choice to opt for my child to take those tests as if I hadn't then I had secondary schools and nothing else opened to us.0 -
I have been reading over the posts for the last few months and I think you are all putting too much pressure onthe children.I ts not the end of the world if the child doesn't go to a Grammar school .We have very good secondary schools here too .If you and the child work to gether it can be done .My two brothers went to Campbell and my cousins went to Bloomfield and Strathearn .Myself went to Lagan and I have done just as well if not better .Campbell is a grammar school that takes anyone as long as they are paying .It has great facilities but not the best Academic record .Remember these kids are only 11 give them a break or you will knock their confidence from now on in ..
i want the best for my child and as far as im concerned that is a grammar school education. i would die if she had to go to the local secondary school. she is very bright academically and i can assure you she has never been put under any pressure. she wants this as much as i do.0 -

Its strange, but I have had this type of thing said to me by several different people over the past few months. In each case, they have been individuals who themselves attended a secondary and not grammar school. I've had things said to me like 'well if secondary school was good enough for me...' If you're not a proponent of grammar school education then why are you interested in this thread in the first place?0 -
I'm a product of a secondary school and I happen to have a better paid job than most of my grammar school counterparts from that era. I'm also better qualified (Masters Level). However, I've gone through life experiencing the "oh right" response when someone has asked what school I attended. Sad but true.
There are some excellent secondary schools in NI - Glengormley High and Ballyclare High spring to mind. Sadly they aren't within easy daily travelling distance for an 11 year old living in East Belfast.0 -
Kids are very good at picking up on our emotions and fears, they are not as able as adults to express their feelings,
I asked my daughter was she nervous about saturday, She said no and asked me Daddy are you, I said Yes.
This is a good opportunity to prepare our kids for real life, were they have to prepare for winning and losing, passing and failing. Enjoying others success and their own and battling through mistakes so they can grow into strong mature healthy adults.
Sure thats what life is definitely all about. I am happy to be honest with my child and teach her that its okay to be nervous about something and disappointed if things do not work out as she would like.
The Goal is to find Peace and joy in the midst of the struggles and journey of life.
Sein fein want to impose on our society, Marxist communist values and that's why Our precious education system that was the best by far is now in such a mess.:EasterBun0 -

10 days,I love that 'The Goal is to find Peace and joy in the midst of the struggles and journey of life'. I think that will be my new motto. That really should be the ultimate goal, shouldn't it? Thanks for posting that.0 -

tee hee - Ballyclare High is an excellent Grammar - :rotfl: we know you meant Ballyclare Secondary:rotfl:.
Different students suit different schools and as all have said before, it is a personal choice what you decide on - but as parents we will make the right decision along with our child about the route we want to take...
I have been reflecting today about the AQE and for all their faults (and there are more than a few) on the handling of this system, there is one thing to be thankful for - they have given us the opportunity for our children to get into a grammar school that Ruane was so keen to remove as a choice for parents. So for that I will be thankful!
And as it is now after 8 o'clock, I think I shall treat myself to a glass of wine......:)0 -
Yes I meant the secondary. :rotfl:0

So anyone else hear anymore rumours?0
