where can i get the template letter as i am going to try and claim
many thanks0 -
hi i would love some advise on where im going wrong?!
i wrote to barclays in oct/nov 2012 again asking for my bank charges back as i was now in financial hardship, after receiving several letters and still getting no where i sent a letter to the ombudsman and received a letter from them today, which i was very disappointed reading. it said about the court ruling and how the court did not make an exception for situations involving financial hardship.
so what do i do now? is it true, if so how have other people been able to get there charges back??0 -
I wrote to a firm I had had several loans with claiming back PPI. They sent me a questionnaire back, I filled it in and on Saturday I was given an offer for over £18000 - don't use claim firms if you're able to understand the basics0

Barclays Bank
Dear Sir or Madam,
Ref: Account number: XXXXXXXXXX
I am writing to request that you repay all the charges in relation to direct debits, unauthorised overdrafts and standing orders that have been applied to my account in the past six years.
I believe the fact that I have been incurring bank charges goes contrary to the aims of the Lending Code (Section 9) and Banking Conduct of Business Sourcebook (section 5.1.4 ‘in particular, a firm should deal fairly with a banking customer whom it has reason to believe is in financial difficulty’). My personal situation has been affected by the charges leaving me in financial hardship and I am writing to request that you take the following grounds into consideration:
I lost my job as an Site sectary in 2008 and my partner also became made redundant the year after, due to these issues times became tough. Soon we were unable to pay the bills and moved into our overdrafts and beyond it with both accounts we have and a joint account. We then started to be hit by charges of £30 a time, which were completely unaffordable and we were trapped unable to pay them back with out getting out of the cycle we were in regarding money, even to the point where I had to contact Barclays to up my personal loan to pay my bills. My partner is still unemployed and claims job seekers allowances making all bill payments very hard to keep up with, these include getting behind and in arrears with our rent, council tax, water gas and electric. Due to this I have recently had to contact you (Barclays) to seek advice regarding my personal loan explaining that I can not afford the monthly payments and can not afford anymore charges regarding my account. Due to this Barclays gave me a resolve loan stretching the payments over 10 years to witch I am still struggling to pay.
We have both also joined debt management plans to be financial difficulties.
As you can see below are just a few issues I have and would be very grateful in the return of the monies.
· Can’t pay for necessities - struggling to meet basic necessities e.g. rent, council tax, food, utility bills, debt, often resulting in high arrears
· Can’t pay debts - struggling to make loan and credit card repayments even when in a debt management plans
· Payments regularly returned - payments regularly get returned unpaid as not enough money in our accounts
· Substantial drop in income - For example partner has become jobless claiming job seekers allowance since 2009 and myself contracting my work load unable to obtain a permanent job.
· Going into debt management - Getting a debt management plan including Barclays resolve loan
· Living off credit. Regularly asking creditors to increase my credit limit or to obtain new credit, always resulting in the answer ‘no’
· Regular credit card cash withdrawals. using regular cash withdrawals from credit cards to make ends meet, including high interest pay day loans.
· The charges are disproportionate. Unintentionally slipping over my limit by a few pounds and the charge is a lot higher than the ‘offence’ e.g. going £1 over but been charged £30.
· Were stuck in a cycle of charges.
The charges total £1100.00 and I ask that you repay me the full amount.
Plus as I believe I have been unfairly deprived of the money I have calculated £377.55 interest at the statutory rate, the amount a court would award and I ask that this be added to my claim to give a total of £1461.55
I have attached a full schedule of the charges with this document and also my monthly expenditure.
I look forward to a full response to this letter within 14 days and if I do not receive a satisfactory response I intend to pursue my complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service or small claims court at the earliest opportunity.
I look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Faye0 -

Barclays Bank
Amount Reclaimed: £30
Amount Repaid: £30
I got stuck with a £30 charge for a bounced direct debit payment to a savings account. Wrote a letter to barclays on 29th March, got money back by 3rd April. #winning0 -
:money:Claimed from TSB last year bank charges under the rule that they were not treating me fair. TSB refused so I went to the Financial ombudsman.(FSO)
Taken a while but I have had a letter from the fso to say the TSB was in breach and have not taken me seriously been awarded £2536 and £100 gesture of good will. Not all my charges but its better than nothing I cannot thank ombudsman enough. They brilliant and she said it was very complicated case.:j.
I was so fed up with the lies the TSB told me and the way they treated me made me mad and do something about it,
Good look everyone keep trying0 -
I only registered on this site to encourage anyone considering reclaiming bank charges or PPI to go for it using the template letters on this site and dont' be put off by the initial response from your lender.
I posted a personlised version of the template letter to Lloyds giving the background to my current financial hardship. I received a standard letter back rejecting the claim and referring to previous court judgements. I sent a further letter of complaint threatening to go the FOS and asked them to reconsider and received £1,240 back a few days later as well as an unexpected cheque for £50 for the "distress and inconvenience" relating to the rejection of my initial claim. It took just two recorded delivery letters and in my case was resolved within a very short space of time.
It's all thanks to the advice on MSE - it's got to be the best financial website there is.0 -
Well I'm really pleased tonight. I accidentally went £200 overdrawn on an account of mine for which I rarely receive statements and just assumed there was more money in it than there was. I called Nationwide tonight after I got a statement through (finally) saying I owe £110 in charges that will come out next week. The guy on the phone refunded the charges straight away, I didn't even have to plead or argue! I have previously got charges refunded over the phone by NatWest last year with only little bit of arguing. So I would definitely recommend picking up the phone before going down the writing letters route - its so much quicker! Only took me 10 minutes!0

Slightly shocked to say the least.
I'm sure many are being approached by Natwest/RBS at the moment regarding wrongful charges and refunding them?
I received an email, which sounded too good to be true - they may owe me from a previous account - and then a letter. When it arrived in black and white I chased it up.
Natwest:
£831 in charges from an account in
2004-2006
Wow!!!
Now, £146 of this is interest they're adding on voluntarily.
They've told me it's the amount from their "highest rate savings account" for that period. (26 Months).
I don't want to bite the hand that feeds me or get greedy, so to speak, but the fact they're adding on this "interest" is great however, they've held this cash for a lot longer than the 26 months interest they're giving out.
So surely, I am entitled to more?
Do I shut up and thank them kindly? or, do I find out about the further 7 years they've held this cash for?...
Sorry it's long-winded...
