  • Bank name: Halifax
    Amount Reclaimed: £2500
    Amount they paid: £450
The story: Wrote one letter to Halifax branch which was ignored, sent it again to head office by registered post and got a phone call the next day to say that they wouldn't repay the last 6 years charges but they would repay the last two years. £450 in my account the next day. Claimed financial hardship as a result of being on maternity leave for a year.

i tryed to claim my bank charges from the templets on this site i got no joy from the halifax i evan sent a hardship letter still no joy
i left it for a while then i tryed again in 2011+2012
still no joy so i went to ombudsman and yes still no joy
so i find it hard when you hear that some banks have give bank charges back and some banks dont
    wots that all about then
    not happy
I successfully reclaimed bank charges from Halifax on the grounds of financial hardship by using the letter template from MSE. This was just last week. They ignored me when I wrote to the branch so I would suggest you do what I did and write to this address:

    Halifax
    P O Box 548
    Leeds
    LS1 1WU

and make sure you send it by recorded delivery so they can't claim to have not received it. Also include your phone number in the letter for a quick response. I got a phone call the day after I posted the letter and the money in my account the day after that. I reclaimed £2500 and received £450.

Do I need to get a physical list of all the charges to send with my letter - do I get that through an SAR? I don't want pages of statements just a list of the charges applied.

I have had a few accounts but some are closed - I am assuming you can not apply on a closed account?

I will be claiming on Financial Hardship - am confident I can prove this for those times and it was just making me worse off!

    Thank you

Got my reply today from LTSB, with reference to reclaiming back my 'package charges' on my Platinum account. Sadly they said due to the fact I had used some of the services within the package, I was fully aware about it all, and they would have to decline giving back any money.
The letter also said that since I was still using the account, they deemed I was happy and all is above board.

Oh how 'giddy' she must have felt when she signed the letter.

Bet I feel more 'GIDDY' when I sign mine for the FO. The weekend of freetime is upon me, plenty of time to print off and fill in the FO forms.

A bit of success ltsb defaulted me for £840 over 2 years ago ,complained about charges so they have giving me a credit of £450 off the balance ,over 50% refunded but they say default is fair ,trying to get more charges back and default removed as the default balance is incorrect
  • Hi everyone

I used the template letter on here to send to Santander claiming £350 worth of charges due to financial hardship from March 2012 to present.
They have replied to say they will refund the £60 worth of charges that were taken on 1st March 2013 but thats it.

Can anyone tell me the next steps, as I'm not really happy with that.

    Thanks :)

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice apologies in advance if i have done this wrong or in the wrong thread

in 2009 I sent a letter using martins template to claim my bank charges back for natwest it took 3 mths for me to get the case to court where i was told I wouldnt be getting anything due to the test case I was gutted as this had taken money to pay for court, anyway I thought that was that then someone told me to try again I'll explain why I need help

I'm very behind with loan repayments to point of having to go court and give them my financial detail incoming outgoing ect

I not longer have a live account with them

I originally took the loan out with my ex partner who has left all the debt with me after i split from him 3 years ago

can I still try to reclaim the charges ?

    thankyou

If you go into your online banking and search your statement for charges (search function normally at bottom of page when you open up your latest statement) you can get a list of them all and print it off yourself. With my online banking you can only search for 3 months at a time, so it took a little while as I went back six years. Probably took a total of half an hour and was worth it for the money I got back!
  • THANK YOU MARTIN!:money:

After following your simple step by step guide I DID IT!

I composed a letter asking for all the charges on my two accounts back, under financial hardship.

One for my Reward Account claiming: £400
Another for my Ultimate Reward Account claiming: £1,135
    A Total of: £1,535

On the reply letter from HALIFAX.

They agreed and went beyond my asking!
Just a few days ago i received back ...

    Reward Account: £321.34
    Ultimate Reward Account: £1,305

    A TOTAL OF : £1,626.34

    AMAZING THANK YOU!!!:T
