Thanks :) I think my hair is one thing im really good with, I save a £5 a week up to have it done which in the past I didn't but i think its quite MSE of me :)
Learning to be 'good with money'
  • today i've only spent on debts...£90 gone in a blink of an eye...i can do this, i'm sick of beating myself up about it :( keep crying :( after my items i'm selling on ebay have sold and been posted, my bloke (bless him) is setting up parental controls...all shopping sites and ebay will be blocked...he's going to set it up via a computer generated password so i can't hack it...

He's amazing really the crap i've put him through over the last 8 years yet he's still here looking after me...i never spend his money so he has no vetted interest either it's all out of love and wanting me to have a better future...we also want to start saving as....drumroll... it would appear he finally wants to marry me :):):) i'm sporting a rather fetching white gold, amethyst ring as of yesterday :)

and i know what you mean about confidence...i am a big girl too size 9/10 feet, 40 G boobs and a size 18/20 and 5ft 8! i have never brought clothes to suit my shape alway dyed my hair wacky colours...and now that's going to change...i've got an hourglass figure and instead of hiding it i'm going to Nigella it ;)

Off to hospital today Future MIL is taking me...DD has to have another xray and that at the fracture clinic!!!

you all appear to be doing so well, i must keep up with this thread, i feel i'm missing out on the girlie chats somewhat lol :)
Hoping to of finally learned my lesson...slowly but surely
  • That is very MSE! I get my hair done every 8 weeks at a Saks academy for £15 which is OK.

    Hi everyone,

    Velocity girl - Congratulations!

Haircuts - I always cut my own, not because of saving on money but because I can't stand getting interrogated. Same reason I don't bother with pedicure, manicure, massages as they don't stop talking!

NGlady - I wonder if you could help. For ages now my hair at the back get's really tangled and no matter what I've tried (conditioners etc), nothing works. I use an afro comb on it now as a normal hairbrush pulls too much and still loads of hair comes out. Any advice?

ejbg - good luck on your frugal month.

verynewmoneysaver - at least charity shops are cheap but they do add clutter :)

Completelylost - hope you enjoy wearing your coat.

I'm going out this afternoon but I suspect that won't buy anything unnecessary. Since starting this thread I've been very good. Thanks salesaddict for starting it. :T

Next month I might give myself a reverse challenge - buy things you need and have put off getting. I don't know about the rest of you but I hate buying things that don't give me that thrill of buying..

    Have a good afternoon everyone.

Chin up, just think - that's another £90 closer to being debt free! :) You're doing really well.
drumroll... it would appear he finally wants to marry me :):):) i'm sporting a rather fetching white gold, amethyst ring as of yesterday :)
Congratulations!!! Well you certainly have nothing to feel sad about at the moment then. Your OH obviously thinks the world of you. :p
Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.... :/
  • Congratulations Velocity Girl!!! That is brilliant! And don't worry about the £90... on Monday my debt payments for the month, all £978 odd quid of them go out of my account... sigh.

Onwards and upwards though! One more set of payments means one more month closer to being debt free...

Have £180 to last me for the entire month... I think that will be my challenge for the month...sigh.

I will remember this, very good advice. Thanks.

EDIT TO ADD: I just reread this post and realised how down on myself I sound - I'm really not. I think I am ok... slightly less than average maybe. It would help if I slimmed down a little as it makes my face a nicer shape, but I can make myself look quite good with the right makeup :)

I'm sure I will. It should arrive tomorrow :)

I understand what you mean about not buying things that you find boring. I really need an electric toothbrush, some new bedroom furniture and some jeans... all things that require a lot of thought (or trying on!) before purchasing. It's just not the same as buying some nice new makeup or a pretty purse :o

Sounds like you've got a good thing there with your OH :) I can understand it must been feel like empty money after you've put in the effort to sell things but well done for paying off another £90 - you're one step closer to being debt-free.

I am going to the hairdressers later and ill probs hate it after lol. I always do this, go spend 60 on somebody making my hair blonde then stand in my mirror after and go "ewww laura" takes a long time for me to like it, confidence issue maybe, strange thing is, its the same as before just shorter lol.

I am allowing myself one body shop purchase, a new hairbrush :) trying to decide whether i need wooden or pin :s need to decide before 1130 tho otherwise no free PP and the offer of £10 for the price of £5 is great!

Hope the hairdresser goes well! I avoid them like the plague as I know I'll never be happy with what they do.

What was the body shop offer? Not that I have any intention to buy anything more :o
  • Okay that was the longest post ever. Sorry about that! Forgot to say above that I also feel like a right plonker with my continuous returning of items - sometimes I will travel to a completely different branch to return things as I feel stupid returning them to the one in my town, in case they thing I'm a right weirdo and talk about me :S

Late last night I went to Asda and spent £6.28 on essential toiletries, and a few £s on tea and some dried fruit (resisted the Penn State pretzels!!! :D). Actually I just checked my receipt for the purpose of this post and the b*ggers have charged me £1.77 instead of 68p  Makes me wonder how often they have overcharged me in the past and it has gone unnoticed.

Oh, and I was browsing in the George department with my mum for ages. They had a really nice bag for £8 and the mother tried to convince me to buy it but I didn't, as it wasn't 'perfect'... just nice. I also put back 3 pairs of undies for £5. So saved £13 (in my head anyway).

Today all I spent was £1.95 on a stand-in foundation, as I spilled mine all over my jeans/bed :( Gonna have to reorder my usual one tonight from America, as it's the only one that suits my dodgy skin tone.

Right I'm off to upload a few things to ebay. Will be back later xxx
