today WAS  going to be a NSD BUT:mad: there were a few bit i won on ebay(which were 9 day listings) that i had to pay for...£120 lighter :(
Clothes again :( i brought one bundle for my dd and most of it was too chavvy for her-even tho designer, gutted...£75 and i've relisted it too...but not at that price due to high listing fees.

£120 is quite a lot to have spent on ebay when you were planning a NSD. Hopefully the designer items will sell for a lot of that back. Could you sell things to try and be money neutral on ebay? I'm glad I don't have much of an ebay habit. I have a bid on a zara dress at the moment and I really want to win it. If I do it'll be my first ebay purchase of the year.

    Mags how are you?

I'm turning into salesaddict but it's GAP instead of M+S for me. Bit strange because I'm more into wearing dresses, skinny jeans, UGG's than the GAP casual look.

Don't remember if I posted about the €20 GAP Italian Merino wool boyfriend cardigan for €20 RRP €69 a few weeks ago. Anyway I was wearing it at the weekend with my skinny jeans and UGG's, completely casual outfit when my mother's friend made a big fuss about my lovely clothes. She was amazed that I had real UGG's and went on about the cardigan, then she admired my eyeliner....I was really amused because it was the sort of casual outfit not really worthy of any major compliments, but it's these sort of compliments that encourage me to buy more clothes. My self esteem seems to be very dependant on how I look.

When I walked past GAP this morning, there were loads of new sale rails. There's another black cardigan for €12.99 RRP €54, and a few plain longline tops for €6, don't remember the RRP. I didn't buy them but I do plan on going back for them on Thursday.

GAP is new to where I live, is perceived as being very expensive and is clearly not very busy if it's having sales like this. The nice quality basics for Primark prices are what's doing it for me. There's no way I'd pay full price there even if I could afford to.

Everyone on this thread (and the toiletries one) seems to have bought things today:think:

Reading that back I'm imagining a reply that says "but with bargains like that they'll be gone by Thursday". No chance, they had plenty and literally hardly nobody goes in there, It's that quiet.

  • Right, I can finally relax - hectic day, my feet are killing me!

I actually spent alarmingly little. Saw a lot of nice things, but none nice enough to become part of my wardrobe. Apart from a coat which I will talk about later...

I bought 2x Clinique makeup removers (I use this all the time) in Debenhams and got the bonus time goodies. £28 but I will sell most of the freebies so it will make the makeup remover cheaper, iyswim.

    Also spent...
    • 99p hair treatment (necessity)
    • £1 grey tights (impulse purchase)
    • 29p bottle water (necessity!) - mothership bought lunch which was £2.90
    • £0 parking :D (found free parking but had to walk a fair bit to get into the centre and wrecked my legs - saved £6 though!)
    • £4.99 (+ the£7.99 credit note from returning the top) H&M basic black vest top & scarf. The scarf was bought on impulse but it is a beaut and not like any of the other 1038 scarves I have already :o
Total spends - £35.27 but most of that was on the Clinique!
    Total refunds - £81.99

I saw the most gorgeous coat in Debenhams Warehouse concession. I was *so* gutted they didn't have my size (she said they'd have one on Thursday). I'm having that coat... but I'm going to sell stuff to make the money. It's much nicer than the one I returned.

I never found a bag I liked, so I'm stuck using my trampy old bag (it's ripped so badly at the back it's getting embarrassing). I saw a gorgeous one in Accessorize but it was cream material, rather than faux leather which I wanted... I almost bought it but then my mum (voice of reason) came into the shop & convinced me that it would end up dirty in no time at all. She was right though.

Actually mum spent more than me - unusual! She hardly buys anything though and always wears her stuff until it's threadbare.

Phew! Long post, sorry if you died of boredom halfway through. Gonna go read all your updates now :)

Completelylost - I like "Mothership" I shall use try that one out tomorrow on my Mumsie :) My mum is my voice of reason too whenever i pick things up its "what are you looking at that for?!" "You wont wear that Laura" "Are you buying that to keep in your wardrobe" argh.

Oh I abso love it when you see an item, and you just fall so in love with it. I havn't really done that in quite a long time, theres a dress im quite into at the moment in Warehouse, its a black wrapdress, costs £45 but I reckon, with a couple of returns it may just want to come home with me on Sat :) It is really nice though and can see myself wearing it tons :)

Yes a cream bag is quite inpractical unfortuantly. Did you look in Faith and River Island for bags? I love Faith bags normally :)

I think you did really well with your refunds, and well done on not falling into the "I returned something therefore its free money" trap :)

  • LOL my mum hates me calling her that. But yeah, minedoes the whole 'you'll never wear that' routine with me... though sometimes it annoys me as it's like she wants me to wear the same old style and never try anything new (though you could say that she gets me to buy things she knows I'll wear).

I did look in River Island but they didn't have anything I liked. A few weeks ago they had a nice bag, hobo style, grey & black... wish I'd bought it, but now it's gone. I'm a bit fussy when it comes to the shape of bags, none of the ones I saw were 'right' :o They don't have Faith here, unfortunately.

Usually when I fall in love with an item, thoughts of returning it don't even enter my mind and usually I've removed all tags and am wearing the item within 24 hours of buying it! Even with the Accessorize bag I was thinking I could return it if I found something better, so maybe it's a good thing I left it behind.

Definitely think you should take back any stuff you don't think you'll wear, and get the dress you love. Actually I saw a few nice things in Warehouse today - not somewhere I usually shop, it always feels too classy for me (I know that's a daft way of thinking).

Just read about your spends today - do you have to go out every day? I mean, is there any way you could have a few no spend days? I think that staying indoors is the only way to stop me spending - if I go out, I'm doomed to spending £10+ every time.

How do you think the interview went? x

My mum is awful, she is very concervative with her clothes. Wont show cleevage etc, when i wear something which shows anything off she proper puts it down and asks if im wearing a vest top under it lol.

I share the logic, if i dont wear in a week or so I wont be wearing it ever so back to the stores I go. My sister, whose a retail manager, said i was a retailers worse nightmear with all my returns lol.

To be honest with you, I do try and get out most days. My mum is my sisters kids carer during the day and to apply for jobs I have to go to my local town to the library just for the quiet lol. But yeah the only way to stop me spending is not going out lol.

To be honest, I think I may have got the job, but its very long hours (45 hours :O) a hour travel each way and minimum wage. The guy who interviewed me was the longest on the sales floor, been there 6 months lol.

We all seems to be splurging of late... there seems to be a lot of super-tempting offers at the moment. Far more than usual!

Gap has never really done it for me - come to think about it, I don't think I've ever bought anything from there. Those things do sound cheap though, but only if you need them. Good quality basics don't come in wrong and they won't date. Sorry I'm not trying to justify your spends, that's just how I'd see it. I bought a nice basic vest top today (£4.99) - I could have had three different coloured Primark vests for the same amount but chose quality over quantity for once.

    Hi all

Thanks for the commiserations about the tooth - I couldn't sleep at night and got up early. Then fell back asleep and got up after 1pm  so felt totally out of sync and didn't go out as the weather was really bad at that point. So a NSD.

I had to laugh at your comment Completelylost - " going to have an early night to go get up and go shopping" :) So if you're returning the boots that means you'll be looking out for more? Did you need more underwear when you shoved them in your basket? I'm guessing no, that's why you returned them.Well done.
NGlady - it's interesting to read what people are eating and how they spend cash in the day. Is the chicken melt like a panini?
Velocity girl - I wonder how much you spend on 'must haves' on Ebay in a month?
verynewmoneysaver - how much have you saved since starting this challenge?
HyperAngel - I tried spending more money on food in the past, but it seemed to be a one week wonder for me.
Sales addict - how are you today? Why are you eating so much?
    Mags how are you?

    Hi to everyone else
    Hi :)

I ended up getting about 2-hours sleep - sod's law! I was walking around in a trance for most of the day :o Still, it was nice to be out and about.

I didn't need the underwear, it was the cute patterns that were attracting me - I bought two 5pks from Peacocks just recently (in the sale for £1.50). The Primark ones were £2 per pair which seemed expensive in comparison.

Well done on your NSD :) Is your tooth still giving you hell? There's nothing worse than dental pain :(

SICK TO DEATH OF SALES AND OFFER EMAILS!!! Evans, Baretts, Asos, DP, argh all offering me 'savings' on stuff i didn't want when full price but i MUST own now it's reduced:mad::mad::mad:

:( sorry to hear you're having a bad time of it. £120 is a lot to be spending on ebay... though I'm one to talk. At least you're reselling them - I do hope they sell well and you break even.

Maybe it would be a good idea to unsubscribe yourself from all those shopping newsletters for a while? What you don't know can't tempt you, iyswim. I too am a sucker for marketing emails.

That's good about the interview (or is it?) Will you take the job if they offer it? 45 hours is a lot of hours but think of the plus-side -- you'll have lots more disposable income (maybe this isn't a good thing though, given the subject of this thread :o) and also less time to spend shopping.

Yeah I can understand you wanting to get out everyday. I could easily spend weeks in the house which probably isn't a good thing! I tend to force myself to go out a few times a week with my mum though, otherwise I'd end up being a complete house hermit. I'm lucky though as it's just my mum and I in the house through the day... it's evenings and weekends that it turns into a madhouse.

My mum isn't bad when it comes to showing off flesh - usually I'm the one complaining about low cut tops, whereas she tries to persuade me that there's nothing wrong and that I look fine! :rotfl:Mine is more critical when it comes to things like dresses (she's right, I never wear them) and colours that she doesn't think I suit. Sometimes she makes me feel like a 5-yr old being told what to wear! But most of the time she's a great help, don't get me wrong :D

Oh my mum is terrible with low-cut items, and short things :O lol. Proper makes comments, are you wearing a vest top, cant you pull that down anymore blah... blah... blah. lol. But, I sort of think when she says "you will never wear that" shes actually normally right, although she doesn't know loads about fashion she does know what looks nice, so I guess her judgement on whether it suits me isnt clouded by what Ms Moss et al are wearing this month!

To be honest, I don't think I will take the job :S It just doesn't look cosher if you know what i mean.

hi ya.... i see all of you girls have been spending money... well we were not pretending to be not spending anymore but spending actually in items we will use and we like.
i did not spend anything yesterday... today i wont either.. just taking dd for a walk and the horrible potty training...
tomorrow swimming pool day but it is free and the only day i am actually spending something is friday £3.20 bus fare to take DD to toddler group then to see nan.
OH and i decided that saturdays is "my day" so i have decided instead of going to town to spend money... i will go to the gym instead, i am being a good girl :p

btw girls if you think your mums are conservative.. you havent met my mum yet... in the whole year she only buys like 2 items ( she is great tho , she doesnt have a lot of money but she always put my brothers first, even tho she only get them clothes in december aswell as trainers, she is no in debt and never been, even with a very little income) she does not wear make up ( i tried by giving her little bags every year when i go to see her with lots of lipsticks, eyeliners, etc...) she only owns like 1 pair of shoes, 1 pair of sandals 1 pair of trainers. i know even if she could afford more things, she wouldnt....
...then comes my aunty who hates shopping, spending money in clothes, she still wear clothes that she did 20 /25 years ago.. and they are all in inmacualate condition.Actually her only luxury is dyiing her hair now that she has got grey hair, of course dying her at home.
when i had some highlights and my nails done when i was there visiting, so lovely she offered to pay for my treatments cos i was there while she was having her hair done hehehehe....
