You know what Anglea, living in the country like that and not having the occasion to wear nice clothes would completely do my head in. It would be Dh's idea of heaven and my hell. We often say if we won the lottery I would head straight for the centre of London and he would head for an island off the coast of Scotland.

    Hi all

Reading that Salesaddict reminded me of my honeymoon as ex had booked it secretly and I insisted on knowing so I'd be able to pack the right clothes. Finally he buckled under pressure and revealed it was a remote island somewhere that would be uninhabited apart from the two of us and some staff!! I was mortified and made him change it.

He wasn't pleased at all as he thought it was such a romantic idea. I don't think he ever forgave me for that.

Lol Angela. I can imagin it would feel very awkward being on a remote island just the two of you! What if you had a tiff? nobody to speak too!

Morocha, hope you can wear those dresses.

Your post reminded me of one of my 'bad buys' last year when I bought a dress for the first time in years and couldn't wear it as its was so uncomfortable (all elastic on the bust that you had to wear without a bra) this year I plan to try it as a skirt instead.

Well done on losing the weight.

NGlady - have you considered insoles for the boots? I had to use 2 in each foot for my latest boots.

Angela, to be honest, I own several pairs of boots already it is my trying to presuade myself to take them back haha :) They are a little baggy on the calves too, which is unusual for me, normally i cant get the bleeders on!

This really made me chuckle. How long did the marriage last?
But in all seriousness, I can understand how he might have always been resentful about that. Opposites may attract but it doesn't make for an easy life does it?

I really feel for you. You are away from your family as well as the city.
    You must really love him.
  • Hi all,

:o all I did was join a simple straight forward January 2010 thread for giving up buying toiletries and makeup until I had used up what I already have.
That one simple act, plus a few other things in my private life have led me to have to face up to the fact that I am a serious shopaholic and I need to stop before I am financially ruined.

It sounds so simple and logical to stop but I am finding it so hard.

I have searched through the DFW threads but I can't find any upto date help. All the posts/threads seem to be from 2007 and then they seem to stop abruptly. Are you all cured? If so can you tell me how? Or am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks so much for any help you can give me.:)

You did not mention whether or not you are in debt, if you like shopping and are spending your own money then this is the lesser of two evils. Assuming that you are in debt as a result of your shoping passion then you need to draw up a budget or get some advice if you are in debt crisis.

When you have money and can afford things that you see then you can take them or leave them. However when you do not have money then you seem to want more things which you really do not need. I save money religiously and have no debts, although on ocasions I do overspend I do not have the urge to go on big shopping sprees.

I have a limited knowledge of your situation so therefore can only offer limited advice. One very important thing to remember is that if for example you buy a pair of shoes for £70 on a credit card and you do not clear the balance at the end of the month then those shoes are no longer £70.

My ex wanted us to live in a tumbledown house in the middle of nowhere with loads of animals and kids running around. All I could think was that I'd end up feeding chickens in my frocks! Needless to say it didn't last. I live right in the city centre and I don't know where he is (he wasn't British)
