Well done Butti. I'm just trying to keep breathing through mine!
RBS sitting at £2,098.31. Other accounts not looking so healthy given my over-zealousness last month. Just enough to be another christmas pressie down (neice).
It was the VSO supporter's meeting tonight. It was very interesting. it's fascinating hearing every-one's stories. And very re-assuring. One man caught TB and VSO immediately stepped in to help. It seems you get a lot of pre-volunteering training and then in-country training when you arrive. You can say if you'd prefer to be somewhere close to other volunteers or more rural. You can say no to any opportunities you don't think will work for you. Or I'd like that but I can't go in the next few months, will they wait a bit longer for me. If you're somewhere where English is not spoken then you get intensive language training.
It sounds as though there is a lot of investment in your training. I guess there's got to be. It is in no-one's interests for a project to collapse. So their next few meetings are in my diary. As is their is a health information day. Just need to apply now!
I will do that the weekend after the conference because all the things that are making it difficult for me to breath freely right now will be over by then and I can give the application the attention it deserves.
(There was some-one there who has the same profession as me. Excellent! She could answer lots of questions and already knew what "I'm not good enough" fears I had... I have her number. She is friends with my boss!)Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55

Yikes, hope there is a a confidentiality agreement at those meetings. You know like AA?
Glad you went it will give you more of a focus. Now that you have decided that you want to do it there is no rush to get that form filled in. Best to take your time and do it properly. You know what they say more haste less speed. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. I did make it known that no-one at work and especially my boss had any idea that I was even thinking of VSO!
I don't know how well they know each other or how reliable she is. She did ask me to say hi to my boss as I left! Couldn't figure out how I might do that without the inevitable question, how/where did you meet. Saved by fact boss is currently on holiday!
And I suppose it's no big deal if boss does find out; it's going to be known at some point. I'd just rather it was from me and when I have actually applied and know if they even want me. (And once I've found out from HR what the score is!)
On a totally different but slightly related matter, there may be the opportunity for ad hoc work in a specific area of my work work. It's all a bit vague at the moment so I have asked for some clarification. And tentatively voiced an interest.
Boss wasn't surprised but I think would want me to give up second job. Although I'd be earning more money if this goes ahead, I doubt I could guarentee the amount I get from second job each month. I reckon it's still be doable within the working time directive though, so I need to have a think aboput it. And find out exactly what is involved!
I suspect a trial period might be a compromise as I am also dubious on being paid when I ought to be, even though it's the same organisation and pay would be at my current grade (which is a bit annoying in itself as if any of my colleagues do it, they'll be getting paid at their - higher - grade), I suspect it would have to go through a different route...
Sorry, I'm thinking out loud!
Today I have mostly been thinking: "I hope this weather passes by Saturday night"! But, as Billy Connelly said, there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!
And the weather always looks worse through the window. Honest.
Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine. ~ Anthony J. D’Angelo
(That might be difficult to sustain over 7 hours of rain and wind! But I'll give it a good bash! But of course, I won't have to, because it will be a lovely night for a meander through the city! :rotfl:)

Thank you MrsMoo
Psycho, thank you. And don't worry about sponsoring me. I'd prefer people sponsored me only if the believe in the cause and can afford to spare the money. Not becaue I have been bombarding fb with status updates!
I've raised just over £400 so far (if I get all the money on my sponsor sheet) so I think that's good shout for cervical cancer and a bl**dy good incentive to keep me going if I flag!
Off to the library now... think SB* is more than safe in her challenge. Unless I stay awake solidly between now and walk night, it will be impossible for me to complte all the course work by the 10th!
It probably is impossible to complete it by the 16th but that's the cut off so let's just see what happens!
I can do this thing!
(Colleague at work made a remark that made me realise I have a plan and the determined side of me might be out in force right now and all she said was that she could see the sparkle back in my eyes. It's been gone for far too long and I'd like it to stay. So I repeat - I can do this thing!)
Big hugs to every-one - whether you need or want them! And shoo me back to the library if you see me spending too much time around here in the next week or so!

You can do this thing.......
..... and the next thing.......
........... and the thing after that......
You, with a bit of sparkle can achieve ANYTHING
Good luck for Saturday, I hope you don't need the waterproofs and that it is a warmish night for you. :j:j:j:j:j
By the way, I think that is a very reasonable amount of money to squeeze out of people in these hard times and I am sure the charity will be delighted :T:T:T:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
Aw, that's lovely Maty! And I hope you are right about the weather but I'm not so sure!
You are right about the sponsorship! I'm astounded at people's generosity. (And have also ticked some people off for donating more than can afford) At work alone, between the two of us doing it, we have raised £200. Which is sooooo much more than either us even bagan to anticipate.
Anyhoo, just a quick visit... off to bed... bust week coming up!
(Though have to say I was at a conference today and Peter Mullen was giving the first talk. Hilarious! I like some-one who tell it like it is! And he doesn't shy away from that. And had to giggle at the disapproval of the twin set and pearls stuffies in the audience. I actually think he had some brilliant point and made them very candidly. But a wee look around the room would suggest not every-one agreed. Tehehe!)Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55

£6.45 to RBS from bills account.
£26.33 to RBS from "spending" account.
There's something weird going on with the student loan repayements but I couldn't make head nor tail of the letter. I'm hoping I'm right in thinking they are taking less than they normally will be - and not that they will be trying to take the whole lot! I'm pretty sure the D/D is 10th of the month and it's not out of the account yet, so I'll double check on Monday. If they take less, then I'll pay the difference to RBS. If they try to take it all - well they'll be onto plums! And I'll be phoning them demanding they pay the bank charges!
I've £25 credit on one of my credit cards too - set up a D/D and then paid off the £300 in one go. Kinda assumed that meant they wouldn't take the D/D but they did. D/D now cancelled!
I'm about £60 away from RBS being under £1k. :T
Hoping Hurricane Katia doesn't come to join us on our walk tomorrow! In complete denial that I'm even doing a walk!Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55
