I would reiterate what Nic has said about having some time sans lodger. Mine goes home every other weekend and I'm usually ready for it. If you take in a Uni student you would get a decent break every 10 weeks or so, or you could lodge a professional on a Monday - Friday let.

Make sure you've have your gas safety checked before you let, but I'm sure the Shelter site and the Uni accommodation place will keep you right.

Thanks both. We dont have gas in the house so should be ok there. I am a bit jittery to be honest as I really value my own space. Mr C is very keen at the moment so I am going to show him this advice before we get any further. From December I will be able to let my flat out so I am hoping that we dont have to go down the route of a lodger. Then again, every little will help right now.

Any more thought on the lodger MrsMoo or are you still mulling it over?

I have to redo one of the assignments. The commissioning one surprise surprise! You'll be glad to know commissioning a service is not a part of my job role! Nor do I ever want it to be! Next hand in date 3rd October! But at least I have a list of things to change. I plan on doing the bare minimum. Apologies to the perfectionists out there who just inhaled sharply! But my energy was spent on this a long time ago! Still on track for a postgrad certificate though. And still high enough an average that I could do the postgrad diploma too. Remind me not to! It's about time I had some me time!

The conference is full! :j:j:j The fear is now settling in nicely! So I have to speak to how many people? But I'm just the enthusiatic cheerleader, not the brains behind the operation! Actually, it's less the speaking that bothers me as I'll not be centre stage, just facilitating others. But the smooth running of the day does worry me! As I've said before, none of us have ever run a conference before, we have no training in it and don't really know what we are doing. But if it doesn't run smoothly on the day that will impact on the impression of 100 people we we really hope will take this approach forward across Scotland and encourage more families to come on board with us (sorry, that probably sound a bit ctyptic to those of you who don't know what I do. Probably even to those of you that do. :))

I checked all my bank accounts yesterday and updated all the current totals... but I don't what
I did with the bit of paper and I need to get ready to go, so I'll update later. RBS is under £2k, I can't find the paper part of my driver's licence (gutted all my filing places and it's not there. Now in a panic that it was in the glove compartment of my old car from the last time I rented a van) and I have to take my lovely car to the garage on Monday as these "blustery showers" we've been having (read: torrential rain) have led me to notice the parcel shelf and entire back seat are drenched!

Still mulling it and working on getting the room ready at the same time. Want to be sure its the right thing first.
Great news on the post grad certificate without being a perfectionist, it goes to show how much pressure you put on yourself. Reminds me of a saying I once heard erm..... about a pass is a pass or something but I cant remember it now. I do remember however
You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.

As for the conference, it will be fine. After all it is only the same as organising a party only on a grander scale. As long as you have the agenda set in advance and all the speakers know what is expected of them what could possibly go wrong.
I love organising conferences. I would have consulted for a small fee if you had asked :) Fee would have been advice on how to have as much energy as you do.

I'm sure the conference will be fine. It is just the same... now the party's organised and we know people are coming, we are just terrified in case it's not a fabulous party! However, we've enough money in the bank to give every-one a free canvas bag so I think we'll be ok! :D (Oh yes, and the calibre of speakers is high ;))

It's a holiday weekend in Glasgow unless you work for health. However every-one in my building was leaving at 4.30 so my boss told me to go home because I would have been the only one in. As you can see, I left before she had the chance to change her mind! (I normally work until 6pm).

I am going to curl up on the sofa and read a rubbishy novel. My friend and I were debating the merits of various novels because I have had The Book Thief sitting on my bedside table for months. I have been wanting to read it for ages but never felt I had the time to give it my proper attention. Now I do but I want to read something light and funny at the moment. So our debate was around what is light and funny! She gave me a chick-lit book to read - which I always scoff at and generally refuse to read. But we are both a little stubborn and now it is my challenge! (This was after she admitted she never wanted to read books other people recommended as she felt she was being told what to read so her naturally rebellious behaviour comes out, she digs her heels in and won't read whatever book was recommended. So in my turn I stated that I would give her the benfit of the doubt and try the book as I didn't feel the need to be so rebellious. However I reserved the right not to finish the book and toss it back to her with a disdainful flick of my head if it was as bad as I feared. :rotfl: And thus the challenge was set.

Mostly though, I don't want to admit to enjoying it even if I do! :rotfl::o(Marian Keyes, in case you are wondering. Rachel's Holiday. I'm only just starting it so I'll try and reserve any more judgement! :p)

I like to have a read of chick lit when I dont want to think about anything. Kind of like people who sit in front of soap operas get pleasure in not having to follow a plot I guess. Marian Keyes can be quite funny. She is hilarious when interviewed and I find her writing style really easy. Go on give it a go. See it as just complete relaxation rather than something to necessarily discuss. I also like Cecelia Aherne and Freya North for the same reasons. Bedside books of choice for me at the moment are: Dalai Llama The Road to Happiness, Duncan Bannatyne: How to be smart with Money and Why dont you fly (backdoor to Beijing) Chris Smith. Just finished Cecelia Ahernes latest.

I am sure the conference will be fab. Just getting 100 people to pay and turn up is a feat in itself. Great for your CV too.

  • I read girly books every now and then to give my mind a break from the crime books. As MrsMoo said, no harm in reading something light hearted every now and then :) I do like a good book to think about too!

:D Psycho, my friend also gave me a John Grisham if I couldn't be doing with Marian Keyes. I've started it (Keyes) and it's easy reading. I realise I get annoyed if a book doesn't have a plosihed, subtle writing style... if any techniques are over-used I get snobby about it. In my defence, my first degree was English Lit. so it's kinda ingrained. :p (Just don't tell my friend I like it ;).)

It's actually nice to be able to sit down with a book for hours and not feel guilty!

Must dash, got my seconf IPL appointment today. I'm rather impressed at the results after only one treatment - though there is a long way to go! And already the skin on my legs is much less dry and sensitive than it usually is. :T
Though first of all I'm going to finish my loose leaf tea from my new teapot. (Half price in Sainsbugs. Been looking for a loose leaf tea pot for ages but they are so expensive. I was a good girl and didn't buy the £16 pretty stainless steel one even though I would have preferred it to the wee bodum one I got, which was £5.25 not £12). :) And I meight sneak in another chapter of Marian Keyes ;).

    Have a lovely day every-one!

I notice I haven't included any quotes for a while, so here's two I found on en envelope when I was clearing out the filing the other day. Completely random (though they might not have been at the time, I can't remember).

"Everything happens to everybody soonere or later if there is time enough." George Bernard Shaw

By which I think they mean it's a good job you didn't phone the DVLA and order a new paper part of your licence Nicca, 'cos sure enough, you had it all along. You just had to look longer and harder. :rotfl:

Just been reading A Town Like Alice. Borrowed it from a friend I stayed with when I went down for my Gloucester interview.

I've done her some laminated cards to stick on computers if people leave them on. Can send a sheet with them on if anyone wants one. It's photo of a polar bear on a very small piece of ice with the words 'Turn it off .......or the bear gets it'. Always makes me think of Sarah Palin.

glad that you are finding Marian easy to read. Butti I love that idea for the computer. If you thought it up perhaps you should get selling it as a mousemat or something.
