Leaving Pipex?

  • Well, rightly or wrongly, I have gone to Plusnet, adding my phoneline into the package. £38 from quidco and a cheaper package seems to make sense.
Lets hope I don't live to regret it.

Can anyone leaving Pipex, or recently having left, tell me when their contract ends? Is it 30 days from requesting the MAC, or from receiving it? I can't remember what they said when I phoned up.

I was put on a new 12-month contract in October last year when I agreed a price reduction, but when I phoned customer services after I received the letter, they agreed that they'd breached the contract and that I only had to give 30 days notice.

I requested my MAC on Feb 1st, and received it on Feb 3rd. My last payment period ran from 4/2/10 to 3/3/10 with the payment taken on 18/2/10. My concern is that they'll deny that they'd agreed that they'd breached the contract, or just be generally incompetent, and continue taking payments. If the 30 days is from requesting the MAC, which is what I thought they said, then 30 days from Feb 1st happens to be the last day of by billing period. ie. 3rd March. In which case I'm thinking of cancelling the direct debit and writing a letter to Pipex explaining that my contract is now fully paid up and the direct debit has been cancelled.

    Any thoughts?

I switched from Pipex to NewNet on 11 December. I requested by MAC on 3 Dec, got it 4 Dec and was switched over on 11 Dec.

I think the 30 days start from the day you start service with a new provider.

I have checked my Pipex bill online and they have refunded from 11 Dec to the end of my billing period, the amount that was overpaid.

I expected this to be refunded to my account by direct debit, as that is how I paid. When it wasn't I called them and they said there was a problem with the DD and they would action a refund by cheque which will take 28 days so worth keeping an eye on.

    Just an update.

I put a letter in the post yesterday statingthe details about how Pipex had broken the contract, that I considered my account paid up, and that I'd cancelled the direct debit. I then actually cancelled the direct debit through my online banking.

I then decided as backup to also message Pipex through MyPipex.net . I received an email back today from them confirming that I was all up-to-date and my account is cancelled. I also had a missed call from them.

That's one worry out of the way. I've read too many stories of ISPs, including Pipex, continuing to bill.
    Nice to save.
